I just got a TomTom One - 3rd ed., and I put a new favorite in by clicking on "Add Favorite" and then "My Location" and then entering a name for the favorite. When I go to navigate to that favorite, it says, "No route found." I need to be able to put a point on the map when I am there and then route to it again later. Any solutions?
Well, I found out from a TomTom tech that the problem is the unit is not designed to create a route to a point that cannot be associated with a street. (i.e. if you try to route to the middle of a cornfield...or even a new development that is not on the map, it will not be able to do it.) He said the only way to get to that point on the map, once you locate it, is to manually "navigate" to it using the compass directions..., but a paper map is easier to use for that function!
This information only came after talking with several other techs who thought there was an actual problem with the unit. Therefore, I spent hours on the phone with them, downloading updates, reconfiguring, and reloading the system. They even had me return it (at my expense) and sent me a refurbished unit, which of course had the same "problem." (I have to say the TomTom techs were very friendly and helpful, but it was pretty ridiculous to have gone through all of that for nothing.)Well, I found out from a TomTom tech that the problem is the unit is not designed to create a route to a point that cannot be associated with a street. I recently had the same problem for the first time after owning my GO510 for about a year. I was navigating to a place about 1 hr away in NJ. I setup destinations for my wife using google maps using lat/long. When I put it in the tomtom, it correctly identified the street. It started planning the route, finished processing and gave me the error message.
I tried:
entering Lat/Long
entering cross streets
picking a point using TomTom's map on the unit
reformatting my card
getting the latest software from TomTom Home
even using the GUI in TomTom home to plan route ( GUI is very slick )
Nothing helped the problem
I couldn't really get rid of stuff on the card to get more space because the included maps of US/Cananda take up most of the space. I was able to plan a trip to an address in MI over 10 hours away, so I don't think it was processing or memory that was the issue.
Work around.
I found a neat feature "Itenerary" which was on the TomTom home GUI but not on my TomTom??? maybe hidden by default. When I went to preferences on the unit I said show all options. Using the itenerary, I picked about 4 locations on route to where she needed to go. This was great because I determined what I thought was a better route anyway. I did this on the TomTom home interface and it was much easier than using the unit's touch screen. Personally I hate having written directions that don't match what Tomtom suggests. Each point was set as a "way point" and only the final location was a destination. I asked it to plan the route using the itenerary. It echoed back that the first stop would be my final destination. AND.... it was able to plan that route.
Of course. this doesn't help if you are in the middle of nowhere and need to just give a final destination, but with a little luck, you might be able to use the touchscreen and set a way point somewhere in the middle of where you are going and actually get to your final destation.

To import into Google chrome you go to Options, Personal Stuff and click import data from another browser. Also there is no quick way to alphabetize your favorites bar, you can however click and drag the favorites around and manually alphabetize them. To add something to your favorites click the Gold Star (IE, Firefox or Chrome but the star is in a different location for each browser)
You have two icons related to Favorites. Add to favorites and Manage favorites. If you did not add a favorite there is nothing to manage. That is why the Manage Favorite icon was greyed.
I am sorry you lost your data, I cannot help you to recover it. Hopefully it is replaceable. Every new gadget needs to be mastred before it can be used efficiently. The best sources of informations are the reading of the manual and playing with the unit.
Depending on the operating system of your TomTom you should be able to tap the screen then tap the forward arrow until you see "add favorite". Tap "add favorite" then tap "address", then tap "street and house number". Type in the city. This will bring up a screen with several cities on it. Select the city you want, then type in the street name. the next screen will let you put the street number in. tap done. Tap OK on the next screen.
How can I create a Favorite?
From the Main Menu, tap Add favorite.
You can then select the location of the Favorite from the list below.
Give your Favorite a name that is easy to remember. Your ONE will always suggest
a name, usually the address of the Favorite. To enter the name, just start typing.
You don’t have to delete the suggested name.
You should be able to edit your favorites under the Add Favorites option. Here are the steps:
How can I delete a Favorite? 1. Tap the screen to bring up the main menu. 2. Tap Change preferences to open the Preferences menu. 3. Tap Manage Favorites. 4. Tap the Favorite you want to delete. 5. Tap Delete. Tip: Tap the arrow to move to the next page button
not all locations are in TomTom maps this is not uncommon if you live in a new construction area that is newer than about 3 yrs old you can make a favorite location by turning on TomTom and navigating through the menu and mark the location the best way to do this would be to go into the street just infront of your driveway or parking area so you can use this favorite for routing info
