Microwave Hood Light Problem

Model # TMH14XMD0
Hello-the light that shines down over the stove will not work. We have replaced the bulb but that is not the problem. Tech support at Whirlpool suggested it might be the wiring behind it, but we can't figure out how to get to it.

Any suggestions?

We see this a lot. The problem is probably not the wiring, but on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

How to change the hood light

By hood light I assume that the light you want to replace shines from the bottom of the unit, not the light inside the microwave. If so check out he Disassembly video on this site: Maytag Microwave Light Bulb Not Working

Light bulb above stove under microwave hood

According to the GE manual it is a 120 v 20 watt halogen bulb, the GE product number is WB36X10213. That is the cooktop light/nightlight that would be on the stove hood. HTH!

THE STOVE TOP LIGHT ONDER THE MICROWAVE BLEW OUT. WHEN I REPLACED THE BULB BOTH LIGHTS NO NOT WORK.

Sounds like a power source issue from under the hood.
Unplug or turn off all power and take a closer look in there,. alternatively - this may sound crazy, but are you certain both bulbs are working by testing in another fixture??

The range-top light blew and now replacement bulbs

My Whirlpool/Roper microwave/hood combo has the same problem. I replaced the bulb twice, checked the bulb and it works, but not in the microwave. I wrote to Whirlpool asking about the problem. Haven't heard from them yet.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Or if you prefer, you can order a new control circuit board for it here for $140.10 plus shipping. (Just enter the model number as MH1140XMQ-1 without the dash).

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or no bright, too. Sometimes this will similarly affect the exhaust fan operation or inside light, too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.
