    We see (and repair) this
a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which
we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a
    week or so.
On some Samsung models, it's expeditious to just replace the entire control panel assembly. What is your full model number from the tag on your unit?

Whirlpool builtin microwave model mh6130xeq1. I replaced the 2 bulbs that were underneath the unit that shine on the oven, but the replacement bulbs do not work. They are 40w appliance bulbs; the same...

You know how when you turn on a regular light bulb and it burns out with a bright flash? What happens is that when the filament burns out, it breaks and bounces back and hits the other electrical post and basically shorts out causing that bright flash. Sometimes, when 1 of the light bulbs in the microwave burned out, it shorted out, and caused the circuit-board trace to burn up. (This is not just conjecture; I've seen it.) If that's the case, then you would have to replace the main control circuit board. A rather expensive repair for no lights. BUT BEFORE YOU DO THAT, get an ohmmeter and check your new light light bulbs and make sure they are really good. Also, if you can, get a bright flashlight and check the light bulb sockets in the microwave (unplug it first). Check for possible corrosion or signs of arcing on the center electrode of the socket. If that's the problem, you might be able to use a small screwdriver to scrape off the corrosion of the socket (make absolutely sure you have your microwave oven unplugged before you do that!).

FGMV205K cover removal

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that you want to know how to remove the cover on your Frigidaire microwave, model# FGMV205K. There are two different covers that you are able to remove for access to two different light bulbs.

If you are trying to change the Microwave Oven Light for inside your microwave:

1)To replace light bulb, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.

2)Remove the louver by removing the three Hood Louver Screws.

3)Push in the upper tabs and pull the louver away from your appliance.

4)Remove the light bulb and replace with a new 20 watt light bulb. DO NOT USE BULB LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.

5)Close the Oven Light Cover by carefully pushing into place. Push the louver back into place (engaging both the bottom and top tabs) and change to hood Louver Screws.

If you are trying to change the light bulbs underneath your Microwave:

1)To replace light bulbs, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.

2)To open Light Cover, remove the screw on the light cover.

3)Replace the light bulbs with new 20 watt light bulbs. DO NOT USE BULBS LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.

4)Close the Light Cover and secure with screw removed at step 2.

If further troubleshooting is needed, I ask that you please let me know the error codes displayed on your appliance. Hope this is helpful.

      -Best Regards-

Lights on bottom don't work. Sockets fell apart and vent fan now does not work. A bulb blew out , then all of this happened.

We see and repair this a lot. The problem is on the control board, which we regularly repair for $39.95 nationwide.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

We'd also recommend buying top-quality bulbs.

They can blow if subjected to vibration such as door slamming or a weak floor, or electrical fluctuation, especially if they are cheap bulbs or they are left on all night.

Instead of having the board repaired, you can order a new control circuit board / smart board if that's economical, and since your sockets are bad, they will need to be replaced, too.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here. I recommend that you bookmark that link to your

favorites.

There's a YouTube video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you're changing the board yourself, you'll need to detach the keypad connector:

Some connectors will have a lock.

I cannot tell how the 2 bulbs (surface light(s)) detach. One of them broke when I was trying to remove after it had burned out, and the glass part of the other bulb turns freely and is very loose and...

Unplug the microwave oven and get a needlenose plier and a flashlight. Wear some hand protection since you are working with broken glass.

Most of the bulbs I have seen are screw thread mounts.

For the bulb with the broken glass, use the needlenose plier and try to find the screw thread for the bulb. It should be screwed in to the lamp socket of the microwave. Carefully grab a hold of the outer edge of the bulbs screw thread and turn it counterclockwise to loosen it from the base. You may only be able to turn it a quarter turn before letting go of the bulb's thread and getting a grip on a new position to continue turning. Inch your way to remove the broken bulb's thread.

If the other bulb still lights up, I'd leave it alone.

Need replacement lamps for under micro--surface light

Voltage will be the same as your household and the appliance, and 99% of the time that's 110 if you're in the US.
What matters more are 2 specific shopping details; Wattage and base size (width)...The first detail is stamped/printed on the original bulb, and base width (not diameter) is easy to determine by laying the old bulb on a ruler.
Overall bulb size doesn't vary much, and is easy to match at the supplier.
Which was the other part of your question: Where to buy.

Most Walmarts carry a small selection of appliance bulbs, as does the local HomeDepot...You will need those 2 shopping details to zero-in on the replacement, then verify that the overall size of the glass is the same of smaller.
(A bit smaller is OK, provided the wattage and base-size are the same...but too wide or too tall, and you can't get the cover back on.)
Best Buy can order the bulbs for you if their service dept doesn't have it in stock, and Sears offers the same service.

When all else fails; Hit the Yellowpages under "appliance parts" for a local parts shop...The bulbs are for the most part fairly generic, and any decent parts shop will have a few in stock.

My light in the microwave has gone out. Is there

Bulb replacement was designed into the appliance, meaning that; Yes, you can replace it and it's rather simple.
First, UNPLUG the appliance! You're working with the door open, so the bulb socket is hot (charged) even though the bulb is dead.

For the overhead light, the bulb is located behind a plastic splatter-shield that clips in place...Press the clips in to remove the shield, and un-screw the bulb (lefty-loosey).
For a sidewall bulb, there are the same clips holding it in place, but they are recessed and you may need a butterknife or to pop them out: UNPLUGGED, RIGHT?

40 watt night light bulbs constantly burn out short out.

Is they are left on all the time, this can reduce their life, and they are more susceptible to vibration.

Have you checked at home center or home improvement centers like Lowe's, Builder's Square or Home Depot?

You can order quality parts such as lamps by entering your full model number or part number WB36X10003 here.

Always be sure the microwave is unplugged or the breaker is off when installing or removing bulbs, and be sure the bulbs and and your hands are clean when installing them.

Need new light bulb socket for GE spacemaker mircrowave

The bulbs are glued in at the factory. Unplug the microwave and see if you can remove the base of the bulb from the socket with needle nose pliers. You may have to twist the heck out of the bulb base but it should come out. If you do need a new socket it is available at www.geappliances.com under parts and accessories. Or call 1-800-626-2002 for GE factory parts
