Look at the picture, I cannot memorize all hardisk jumper but almost all drives have label in it. where you put the jumper for the Cable Select, Master, Slave.

See picture below. Opposite pins has label on it to where you put the jumper.

Most computers 'nowadays' dont really need jumper settings, usually the best approach is to have all your drives on the same ribbon cable, on "cable select" if thats not an option, 'slave slave(or just slave depending on the drive)' will work just fine.

To use the WD 800 as a master there must be no jumper attached to it.The maxtor has a diagram for the jumper and it MUST be set to slave not cable select.

Select the maxtor HDD as master by setting the Jumper to the extreme left of the hdd; i.e. next to the data cable.
Remove all jumpers from the other HDD which you want to put as slave.
