My HL-S5086W samsung dlp had one white dot on the screen last week-end and has developed 3 more this week-end. I have seen on the internet that others are having similar problems with 46 in. dlp samsungs.
Color wheel is failing and this repair cost thousand or more most of the time so i guess it would be better to dispose of or you may get lucky and find one on ebay but make sure you take care in installing

You get white spots inside the samsung DLP tv due to bad Digital Micromiror Device , or bad DMD board .
What is actually the problem is the DMV chip connected to this board . Inside this chip are 3 million tiny mirrors ,and when they physically get stuck , they either show black or white instead of a color
This is well know problem with SAMSUNG DLP...
The DMD chip is failing. If not under warranty expect to pay a few hundred to several hundred to get it fixed
The mirrors on the DLP chip are slowly sticking either fully open (white) or fully closed (black). The part that contains the DLP chip is the Light Engine. It is the most expensive part of the TV.Only the Samsung TVs has this issue.
Replacing the DLP chip and the micro mirror would solve this issue...
If the white dot is on every picture and every input and stays there for a sec. after you press the power button to turn off the tv then suspect a stuck mirror in the DMD.
It seems you might have an issue with the dmd board.
Go to the menu, and if the dots still show on the menu, the issue definitely is with the dmd board but if they don't come up on the menu, the issue will be with the video board.
Hello auntthumps, I have posted this eariler, it applies here so here goes: As the commercial goes, "It's the mirrors" and that is exactly what it is. The DMD (digital micromirror device) DLP chip that is the problem. The areas that are white are due to stuck or malfunctioning mirrors. This will only get more pronounced as time goes on. The fix is to replace the DLP chip and or module. I would advise that you get a qualified TV technician to do this. I hope this helps Thank you, Shuttle83 http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com
