If you remove backing you can reach in and up if your small enuff and clean without taking it off but if you want to take i suggest getting another pair of hands or 2 and while their holding screen you take off screws directly behind screen

Sony trinitron 36" flat screen tv

Unfortunately, TV sets are not equipped with adequate internal protection against electrical storm damage, and it doesn't matter that the TV was turned off if it was left plugged in to an active electrical receptacle and/or directly connected to an antenna or an Internet data line. The fact that you can still receive anything at all indicates that the TV set can probably be repaired at a service shop, but for future protection of the set you should purchase a good surge protection device such as the one found at the below link.

How to fix a big scratch on a projection tv screen

Is it the screen itself or the protective screen that is scratched. If it's the protective screen, then you can just remove that, but be warned the lenticular screen is now prone to scratches from kids, dogs or a clumsy significant other. But if you feel comfortable with no one bumping into it, then you can remove the protective screen and actually get a better picture quality with no glare.

If it's the actual lenticular screen (one behind the protective screen) then your in trouble and it will cost a pretty penny to get fixed. You can switch it out yourself once you buy a new one, but have two people handy, the instructions on how to replace should be in the owners manual.

Broken protective screen

Instead of trying to find just the screen, I suggest buying an "as-is" complete TV. Then just take off the parts you need and scrap the rest... You may even get a better deal. I just looked on ebay and there were a couple listed. I imagine with everyone switching over to flat screens, you'll find a good deal.
