My HP vs15/vs17/vs19 LCD monitor just stopped coming on. No problems previously, no distortion, perfect and one day it went to sleep and never came back on. We rebooted, checked wiring, etc. Any suggestions?

Hello there kittensue.

Here's your geek-steer ...

Based on your trouble description, likeliest to be either the monitor OR the video card:

  • Connect the troubled monitor up to a "known good" PC system.
  • Swap a "known good" video card into the system hooked up to the troubled monitor, or vice-verse.
Deduction will reveal which is in need of repair/replacement.

Good luck, and please do post back ...

  • to let me (and interested others) know how things worked out,
  • to provide clarification or feedback,
  • if you have ANY further questions.
Today's the best day of my life ... and NOW you're part of it!

My Monitor keeps going to sleep when i hook it up to my high end graphics card. My monitor is is a HP vs15

It may have gone into sleep because it does not detect the video signal from the PC or it has problem inside, you need to try it with another PC first and make sure to set the PC Video resolution not higher tahn the native resolution of this monitor: 1024 x 768 260Hz.

Monitor goes to sleep right after tunring it on

Hopefully it is not lamp assemblies as shown in my albums (both VS17 and VS19 have bad lamp assemblies problem due to poor soldering works)
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed HP monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

No power when u plug in an turn on HP vs15 15 in. Flat Panel LCD Monitor.can u tell me how to open it up so i can check the switch

You need thin flat blade screw driver to crack open the case, it is almost the same as VS19, more likely to havebad caps with bulging tops, see pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/HP%20VS19D/

Monitor cuts off after 10 minutes. When you power back up the screen displays as if there was no problem.

It can be the power supply is getting bad, it will get to the point where it will not start at all, look for bad caps with bulging top, it mat have the same chassis as VS19. It can also be bad connection on the lamps, see http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/HP%20VS19D/

Works for awhile then brightens and goes black

I just fixed VS19 which more likely to be the same chassis as VS17, one of the lamps was bad, it had bad soldering works on it. You may want to look at the power supply first jsut to be sure it is not bad caps problem. Lamp repair is very complicated (LCD panel had to be disassembled). see eaxmple of what I just fixed yesterday: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/HP%20VS19D/

HP vs15 monitor Flickers then blacks out.

Hello

This monitor has 5 capacitors in the power supply that age prematurely. I can repair this for $50.00 +parts + shipping. Or you can take it to a local repairperson.

HP vs15 no problem

Please check first if your LCD monitor is still under Warranty period, if yes, then I recommend to bring the unit to authorized service center to properly diagnose & fix the problem, because if you open it yourself & probably broken its seal then the Warranty will be Void & other problem/s that may arise / found will no longer be covered by their free service / part replacement.

If no longer covered by a Warranty, then you can open it by yourself, by turning (counterclockwise) its lock screws to open its back cover & check the power button connections if loose/broken. regards

Hp vs15, black screen, power light goes on and off like it is in sleep mode

Monitor is dead. The LCD inverter board probably went out and needs replacing. More than likely, it will cost you over $100 to get it fixed. It's better to spend the money on a new monitor.
