Question about Panasonic Palmcorder PV-GS70 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Christmas URGENCY: monitor/viewfinder: blue screen, lines of white dashes

For no apparent reason camera refused to play tape; shows blue screen WITH lines of white dashes. Indicates it is recording (i hear slight whirring sound), but nothing recorded. Viewfinder/monitor show image of what the camera is pointed at.
HELP ! I was planning to digitize old home (VHS) movies for family Christmas presents. Now, I think I'm SOL.

Remove the tape and just test that whether its recording or not and try to change the tape and then try

LCD shows stripes thus the picture is not complete

Mine was similar - with vertical black lines on playback. Visit Bristolcameras.co.uk, enter your make and model and ask for a head cleaner. They sent me one within 4 days and that was over the Christmas period. Reasonably priced too (£3.50 + p&p) and the whole head cleaner can be used up to twice once the tape has gone from beginning to end.

Lines on tape when played back or maybe they are only on viewfind

most likely head problem, try to clean with special tape.If still lines appeared on screen ,head must be replaced.

Tapes will not play

Video head is dirty / clogged. Use good quality Mini DV Head Cleaning cassette.

Hi
When the LCD screen is open the viewfinder will switch of and when it is closed the viewfinder will switch on. You can switch between the two by pressing Monitor select button to the left of the Eyepiece (Viewfinder). as you look at the back of the camera.

You try it with proper connection using a new or working wire if you have used a vcr to play back.
Play the tape with any other camera.Bcoz your monitor may be fault.
Play the head cleaning tape in the camera, and try

No playback

your pal tapes played - in a separate pal player - shows whether your camera ' s tape guides are still in alignment ( your monitor must also be capable of playing pal ) ;

LCD Monitor on ,and the Electronic Viewfinder turned off

If you turn on the back LCD, the electronic viewfinder will remain on while in a shooting mode. There is no setting on the camera to use only the back LCD monitor while shooting. If you playback images in the Play mode, only the LCD monitor will turn on. However, if you press the Monitor button while in the Play mode, than the back LCD monitor will turn off. The image will display only in the viewfinder LCD.
