The fans are controlled with a clixon that has a cut in at 5 degrees, and cut out at 20 degrees. If the unit is running and the fans are not comng on then I would have to say you are out of freon. But your condensor fan could be running and the compressor NOT be running which could be a problem with your compressor. Find out if your compressor is running by taking an amp draw. If compressor IS running then you are low on freon. If the compressor is running and your evaporator coil is cold and your fans AREN'T coming on then your clixon is bad.

The inside fan will start turning after the evaporator ( inside coil ) riches about 32 degrees F .Probably the unit is low in refrigerant.

Why does it run continually?

Hello David;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

If your freezer is running continually something is wrong. Your refrigerator freezer will run, then shut down to go through the defrost mode. The defrost mode is usually 10 to 20 minutes approximately every 8-10 hours.

What is happing is your compressor is trying to maintain the set temperature and will not shut down until it does.

So, you either have a bad condenser fan (Cools the heat), a frozen cooling coil (Cooling air obstructed) or a bad cooling fan.

Un plug your freezer for 24 hours. Put plenty of old towels under the freezer to collect the frozen ice.

Clean the condensing coils underneath. If the fab=n on the bottom is not running, use a household fan and blow air under the freezer until you can replace the lower fan.

Send me a model number. I will give you the part number you need. Easy fix.

Compressor runs but fans dont.

If the compressor is running and pumping with no heat produced, you have lost refrigerant.. Most modern freezers have a controlled fan so the coil can freeze before the fan starts.

Kegerator not cooling

which fan , inside or out.. if outside condensor fan is running then it has a bad 175 capacitor or if the compressor is running then it is low on refrigerant. if the cond fan is not running then check thermostat.. you can do this by connecting the two wires together.. another way to check the compressor, cond fan is to reach under and unplug the wires going to comptessor and plug into a 12ga extention cord.

Fridgeaire upright freezer is getting warmer and warmer. How do I

there is no way of cleaning the coils.there maybe a problem with the compressor.you should hear a fan running inside the freezer when it is in the cooling cycle and the compresor is running if you do not here the fan running this could cause a cooling issue and the evaporator could be building up with ice.
check the rear of the freezer to see if there is any ice build up.

Not sure of the model or make, but the freezer and refridgerator work and then dont work, i can freeze water but a day or two later it's thawed?

First, make sure the refrigerant coils underneath the unit are not dirty. If so, clean them off.

Second, make sure the compressor (underneath the refrigerator) is running.

Third, make sure the compressor fan (underneath the refrigerator close to the compressor) is turning. This fan should always be turning when the compressor is running. It removes heat from the refrigerant coils and transfers it to the outside.

Fourth, make certain the evaporator fan (in the freezer, likely behind an access panel) is turning.

All of these conditions must be present for proper cooling.

I have a frigidaire freezer upright model#ffu20f9gw3

Without any additional info, there are a lot of possibilities:
1. Condenser coil (underneath unit) is dirty and clogged.
2. Compressor is failing. (need A/C tech)
3. Metering device is clogged. (need A/C tech)
4. Refrigerant charge is low. (need A/C tech)
5. Door seal is broken (frost will form around door).
6. Defrost heaters are stuck on (replace defrost timer located underneath unit at front).
7. Condenser fan has failed (underneath freezer on back).
8. Evaporator fan (inside fan) has failed (ice will form on cooling coil).

This should get you started...

If this helps you, please select YES to the first two ratings questions. Thank you, and Good Luck.

My parents just gave us their old freezer. The sides and top are quite warm, though the cooling unit seems to be working inside. Is that normal?

No it's not normal. Make sure the condenser fan underneath near the compressor is running when the compressor run.

Condenser side & compressor getting very hot

There is a fan you should be able to hear in the freezer.(it may turn off when the door is opened so hold the door switch in) It's behind the rear cover inside the freezer. The only other fan is underneath the fridge at the back behind the cardboard cover where the compressor is.

Fan

You should be able to hear the fan if it is on (inside ) .If the compressor is running , then the fan inside the freezer should also be running .
