No driver is neccessary. When you plug the camera into the USB port, Ubuntu should automatically mount the camera. If not, Open a command prompt and type the following command and post the output here:
dmesg | tail
You say you're running Ubuntu/Kubuntu. Which on are you using? Kubuntu uses the KDE desktop rather than GNOME, the default for Ubuntu. The user interface is different.
If the camera is mounted as it should be, it would be mounted under /media (Usually /media/disk), and that directory would contain all your pictures.

You shouldn't need a driver. If you plug the camera in and it says connected then linux has mounted your camera's storage media. One of the hard things in Linux is finding out where the device is once linux has mounted it. It's easy with Ubuntu since automounts are automatically placed on the desktop but that's not the case in all linux brands. Start with the root directory and move up checking for where your camera could be mounted. It's probably under /usb or /mnt. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll look it up for you. You need to tell me what linux your using though.
