Do you have itunes installed ? if not install itunes and if so try and see if it is recognized on another computer if it is seen by another computer try and uninstall the software on your system and update and reinstall it

Have you tried the usb cable in a different port or if that does not work try a different usb cable. Or try your ipod on another computer. Hope this helps.
try getting a usb wall plug in and charging it that way you computer may not be able to supply enough power either that or you ipod is deffective and has a power supply issue if this is the case i recomend either getting a new one or getting it fixed
First ipod cables only work on ipod.
Second if you bent the connections (even just one) so that it is not connecting inside your ipod you will need to get that fixed.
You should reboot your computer and try again first though.
