I want to replace the door switches on my GE above range Model PEB1590SM2SS Microwave/Convection Oven. Do I have to remove the outer shell.

Remove outer cover, exposing hinges. Loosen mounting screws and adjust as needed.

To replace the inside light, you'd need to remove the oven from the wall, and take off the outer cover.

Remove the outer cover by unscrewing the fixing screws. The lamp will then be visible for replacement.

Pretty simple actually, open the door and remove the clipped on black trim that surrounds the edge by prying with a putty knife or similar flat edge- be careful not to break the latches. Inside and under the trim is a few screws that allow you to seperate the inner and outer door. Once you have the outer door off you can lift the inner door from the pinned hinges. Rerverse to install.

remove outer shell/cover, the fuse will be in a fuse holder about 1" long X 1/8" in diameter and is called a ceramic fuse,take it out,look on ends for current rating go to hardware store they have repl fuses, if the new fuse blows it could be your h.v. diode, capacitor, or the magnetron tube

If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (and the owner's manual doesn't address it) some disassembly may be required.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

On an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there. There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), instead.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

Bulbs can be had in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

The interior oven light can be accessed in the following way:
1.Open door and remove the top grill via the 2 screws along the top edge.
2. In the interior light will be under metal plate with fasten by single screw. The halogen bulb is rated at 120V 20watt. Looks like a G-8 bulb with 8mm pin spacing with o.a.l. 1-5/8" long

Apparently this is not actually an R-510HK since that model does not have convection mode. Can you reply back with the correct model number? We may have the service manual for you.

It sounds like you have loose door switch mounts or possibly loose door hinges.

If the door won't open via the door open button, then the outer cover will have to be removed.
