you slide the cover open and then hit the eject button next to the cartriage, the cartriage pops up and then you remove and install the cds you want the unit is in the trunk.
The problem normally is to the reading head.
You have to open the player find the head and clean it with a cotton stick very gently.
Then try to listen a cd. If it works it's ok, or else your head is broken and you have to replace it thing that I am not suggesting because of the high cost of the head.
Likely have a Monsoon radio system in your 2000 Beetle. The CD changer is controlled by your radio, and not any CD changer will connect to the outlet in your trunk. You can either find a CD changer on eBay (or elsewhere, or swap out your radio for a radio from a newer VW Beetle that has a CD player installed instead of the cassette. Can also find those on eBay.
just replaced my 2006 Pontiac G6 GT Monsoon 6 CD changer with an identical model pulled from a totaled car.How do I reprogram it so it works on my car.
On the 2005 Beetle, it's not in the trunk, but in the center console under the arm wrest. There is a special CD Changer that fits that spot that plugs directly into the plug under there. I've bought two off ebay for my wife's beetles and they work great!
