Hello, I recently moved into a house with a security system GE NX-1448E. How do I change the phrase on the display that the previous owner programmed? Thanks in advance.

If the units are more than 5 to 7 years old they have reached the end of life cycle and need to be replace. Smoke detector typically are only good for 5 to 10 years.
Take the small part (the magnet) off of the dr or dr framemove it around the large part (the contact) and see if it clears. If you cant see the control panel/keypad from the dr you may need help. As you move the maget around the contact slowly you want to see if the zone clears. My guess is the magnet is is not in they right place. if you open the cover on the contact the magnet should be parallel to the reed switch(a glass tube about 3/4"long).GL.
You could try taking the sensor out of the system and try reseting from there.
Or Virtually close the sensor. To do this point the senor sender at the sensor receiver. The reset system.
If, this sensor is not being used you could tape the receiver and sender together.
Hope this helps.
I am sure you already guessed this but it appears someone has changed the default installer code. Using the default installer, dealer, or master codes defeat the purpose of a security system as most criminals know the default codes. The only way I know of to regain control of this panel is to reset it to factory defaults. This does mean that you will have to completely re-progam the system. I would document as much stuff as you can from the display before resetting it. If you don't have a copy of the installation manual I am providing a link below. Hope this helps.
Go to the GE Security website, register and download the installation manual. Heres the link: https://portal.gesecurity.com/portal/login/login.jsp?TYPE=33554432&REALMOID=06-0008ce40-a18c-1536-85ea-8312f762000e&GUID=&SMAUTHREASON=0&METHOD=GET&SMAGENTNAME=$SM$wqmXYZlDF%2bp9wEfLtfJfgbvvO8xuG0aMyW%2fdUiDGhFTao1t%2b10TkWhV0hWcBh7VC&TARGET=$SM$https%3a%2f%2fportal.gesecurity.com%2fportal%2fmdme%2fDownload.jsp%3fID%3d320%26DID%3d320%26documenttype%3dInstallation$%20Instructions
The master codes are in the manual. Or google "Simon 3 access code" or "Simon 3 ADT code" or such...
I do not know that make, but, it could be the contact and magnet not in line or water ingress or maybe just a faulty contact. Check your manual for a reset procedure.
