Love reading your posts Larry. Isn't there a fuse in the PSU? There was the last time I took one apart to clean the fan.

Ah, you see that is why I was confused, I thought we were dealing with a DESKTOP Computer :>D When you remove the PSU and remove the case, you see a glass fuse. The furthest I have been into a Laptop is to remove the keyboard, and I only did that for fun, because I found the sliding clips.

Acer Aspire E15 laptop short to ground ... line where the voltage flows and need to validate specs of every component in that line based on the schematics. ... The reason why i want to repair this laptop is the following, money.https://themeorbit.net/

the OP posted a loaded question, with where is the fuse.? the classic !

they ask that mostly do to asking others and they tell you, to find the fuse. (cars and boats sure)
just like at home the home AC power goes dead but not the neighborhood, knee jerk fuse/brakers blown. bingo.

the power pack for the E15 has fuse, most do but is a moot point as it is plastic weld fused together and is wrecked if dismantled by DESIGN to folks can not touch High voltage inside or the kids. (hint buy a new power pack)

that leaves this. the mighty motherboard.
there is no fuse holders there. (ever)
just SMD fuses if at all, marked F1, F2, F3 up. mostly see only at battery charger and main DC 19vdc jack

so the answer is , remove this and look.
btw the PC did not tell full model number of the E15 there are vast models and vast mother boards not any 2 the same, that is fact

    at random show this. . E15 ES1-533 N16C1

OP why not post evidence and symptoms first. and ask for help and real model number too not just E15.

PCs can and do fail in 100s of ways, even 1000s and more adding in WINDOWS errors.

    are you hyjacking this post
    is that a question
    or is it and answer,
    I can not tell.

if you have short ,we use an inductive ammeter
we first strip the mobo down, (up to 20 things on some models of complex mobo)
the we the ammeter to find the short, or thermal IR imaging camera to find the hot running shorted part.

there are only 3 ways (After the strip down fails)
    1: AMMETER.
    2: THERMAL CAM.
3 :CUT POWER FEEDS TO ISOLATE THE SHORT.

if confused on all or any tests that all shops/labs can do ask.

my guess is you work with no real instruments, so only #3 can be done , right?

also I might add, #1 and #3 can fail if the power plane is shorted, (leaving only #2) and bench Power supply.

see this link and see power planes and ground planes
    https://resources.altium.com/p/understan...

if the huge and massive power plane has short, finding it can be SUPER hard.
I use #2 cam to do this. ask how.

E15, one of 100s of version sold word wide or options , picked day 1 new.

photo shows side view of a mobo,, see the power plane, (can be the full area of the mobo. )

the topic is how to find shorts in any PC
first is strip down testing, in this case an unknown short in a E15-nnnnnn laptop , nnnnnn not TOLD.

    but laptops are all tested the same way, for shorts;
we strip them down (A.K.A) going to a minimum system or farther.
see the worst case complex LAPTOP here.
    https://pcdied.com/PSU/strip-down-testin...

just after desktop see LAPTOP , see over 21 things that can short here.
as a tech we all know any thing can short. (on topic)
we ASSUME nothing ever. we test and find the truth and let the chip fall where they lay. (yes pun)

top shorts are CAPS. they last only about 1/10th the life of silicon. or less. caps have 20 life spans.
the big ones. called electrolytic !!!, and age and for sure heat kills them early

finding some shorts takes a bench power supply set to VCC (the shorted bus name voltage) set correctly
3.3v or 5vdc are common, and the 2 most likely to short and you already saw the VRM shut down for shorts on its output so know full will what bus/rail is shorted. so... we hot wire.it.
then set amps to 0.5 to 1amp max, in he bench supply
then you hot wire the bad power bus /plane.
then you use the IR cam to find the hot part.

if you do not have the tools to do the job right, you will fail 1/2 the time. or more, if not lucky.

    shorts happen.

we strip it down, if the short is not cleared
we use the bench power supply to find the short 3 ways. listed at the top of this page

the answer to that is replace all fuses... (see? we went full circle here)

sorry E15 means zero to me, the maker in fact has 100s of sub models no 2 the same .
if the PC is not dead. (i bet is )
the model shown in the BIOS page 1.
or the service tag (read it tell it?)

turn over the PC, (hard labor)
    then see the service tag
Acer Aspire E15 E5-553 -11PT Bottom Case (full model example here)
this is one of 100s of examples of so called E15.
I redacted the s/n, for privacy
see the real model there, see that ?
if you tell this answers can be 10x more accurate.

  • Anonymous Jun 16, 2021

each digit in the model tells what it is and all options added day 1 new,
we can not guess what PC you have, period. this one is 13 years old.

  • Anonymous Jun 16, 2021

in most case, 99%? no fuse blows (will yes deep inside huge battery to stop the sony law suit fires)
the PC has 3 more more VRM
it VRM called chips called voltage regulator modules. and everyone also has OCP, over current protection
and are in fact PURE ELECTRONIC FUSES that NEVER EVER BLOW. (lightening hits , not withstanding)
this chip VRM sees any short and simply shuts down the RAIL, by design. and no smoke and no fire ever.
    just like magic. kinda.

The tech needs to know these facts or can never solve power problems.
he/she checks all rails for regulated and proper voltages and for overloads.
most PCs if this type have at least 3 power rails. 1.8v to 5v.

  • Anonymous Jun 16, 2021

short answer if at ALL< in 1 of 100 places on over 100 versions of this PC not one told.
E15 is NOT a PC it is only series number
in fact vast version of it sold world wide, and no 2 countries use the same mobo, so you failed steps
not service tag told with full model told and for what country.

  • Anonymous Jun 16, 2021

    shorter
on the green board, marked F1.

    and more..

    remove mobo step 1

    look on both sides of MOBO;
then read the white marked words, like F1 ,F2, F3.
those are called component ID's. that are silk screen painted on in white,

    so read the words.
    IC = IC chip #
    Q= transistors
    R= resistor
    C= capacitor.
    J1 = jack one
    F1, fuse #1

and more and all standards here in USA the label on it tells you that for sure.

    better yet post symptoms first

    PC dead.?
    screen dead
    all LED dead or blinking?
    beep codes?
screen still dead with a flash light pointed to LCD, if you see data now the CCFL lamps rear are dead.
all fans dead, no they must not ever be dead., must spin and blow air and not be packed up in lint.
powerpack voltage good (19vdc or as it tells you)
PC run now with the silly very old HUGE BATTERY PULLED OUT NOW?>

we do all that before removing 35+ screws and a mobo pulled. for sure,

How to replace battery in acer aspire E15

E15,
hello Judy, what battery,? PCs have 2 in laptop or 3.
yours has 2, i think the BIG battery that runs it mobile
and the tiny coin cell RTC battery, inside, that lasts for 7 years.
that E15 model has many versions, so that is not a complete model number,(as most here never tell)
here is one E15 if many , (the E15 is really E5 see??????)
Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-575-33BM)
turn it over, upside down.
if there is no removable battery pack and lever latch there
that means the PC is so thin (modern) and is now deep insides
if true the bottom of the casing must be removed.
Acer does provide, service manuals like Hp and dell do (good makers)
so you get to google all day or youtube all day.
fun no? or have a shop do that but you asked, HOW?
so there you are.

here is wild guess on E5 number
https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Document/User%20Manual%20W10/User%20Manual%20W10_Acer_1.0_A_A.pdf?acerid=636349268251913884&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%20E5-575G&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6#_ga=2.177028065.595347437.1537013255-233017291.1537013255

clicks, acer, notebook, aspire, endless list so picked E5-575 my wild guess for you.
then I RTM for you. no answer there,
some E15s the battery snaps to the bottom
others not, (inside)
only the full and complete model number of the PC will tell you what battery is used, I must assume its not the easy models. (old)
that users manual does NOT cover dismantlement.
like we have here at DELL and HP
Acer has no such manual. (well not offered there)

if you youtube this you and the tubers get confused.
as knowbody knows, so many models exist and fail to say it.

I reset my surge protector and the computer wont power up. i think i need a new power supply. the power cord is working fine. Please let me know where i can find a power supply for the aspire...

The Acer Aspire L100 is a desktop computer powered by a special DC adapter and power cable. The computer's motherboard incorporates a fuse designed to prevent any power surges from damaging the computer. If the fuse burns out due to a power surge or for any other reason, the computer will no longer function. You can check the motherboard fuse for damage yourself, then take it to a trained technician for replacement if needed

Shut down the Acer Aspire L100 and turn the tower around.

Press the "On/Off" button on the front of the tower. If the computer will not boot and the fan does not turn on, the fuse may be burned out.

Unplug the power cord from the rear of the tower

Turn the tower on its side and remove the Phillips-head screws connecting the back panel to the Aspire L100's cabinet.

Pull out the motherboard assembly gently from the back of the cabinet. The internal fuse is located on the motherboard behind the DC power jack, which is to the right of the monitor jack

Let me know if this helped..
