Format Memory Card

I accidentally selected yes to "format memory card?"...does that completely delete all pictures????? The manual says yes however under that says, "Formatting or erasing the data on a memory card merely changes the file management informaiton on the card and does not ensure that it's contents are completely deleted"...is there any way to retrieve the "deleted" pictures????

Are any of the old pictures left, and how can I retrieve them. Most I had downloaded or printed, but the very ones that were special to me, I had not yet downloaded.

No problem. Your formatted pics are still there until you take more pics and overwrite them. Just remember not to take any more pics on that card just yet.
It's no problem at all to get them back. As an example, try the below linked freeware program. It's tiny to download (a little over 1meg), and very easy to use. You'll have your pics back in ten minutes after reading this:

How to unlock a photo in camara

The protect function allows a user to protect a picture from accidental deletion. To unprotect a picture on your camera, scroll to the protected picture that you want to delete, then press the Menu button (the button to the right of the Play button.) Scroll down the menu and you should come to an option that allows you to Protect/Unprotect the picture. Since your picture is currently protected, deselect that option. You should then be able to delete the picture normally.

Alternatively, you could also format the memory card, however this deletes ALL photos and data you have on the memory card. If you are trying to completely clear the memory, this is the best way. After turning on your camera, simply press the Menu button, scroll to Setup, then scroll down to Format. Select Format, it will ask you if you want to format the memory card, or the camera's built-in memory. Format whichever one you want to clear, if you are using a memory card then your pictures are stored on the memory card. It will take a few seconds to format.

Hope this helps.

Recovering pictures or photo's from a accidentally formatted memory/SD Card or...

It happens to everyone. You delete a picture or accidentally format a memory card that should not have been deleted/formatted. Luckely there is a way to recover you data if you have not used the drive since losing the data.

To start , download Disc digger from the following link :

Diskdigger

This program is freeware but donations to the developer are encouraged to help maintain and improve the program.

After the program has finished downloading , simply unzip it and run it (no installation). If you do not have a program to unzip it , CLICK HERE to download winrar.

Make sure that your memory card is connected to your computer either via the camera or preferably via a external card reading unit.

Now , select your memory card from the list when you open the program and then click next.

a0bfb5f.jpg

Now , for accidentally deleted files , select "dig deep"
For a formatted card/drive select "dig deeper"

Now select the file types you would like to recover on the next page and then select next.

bad48d4.jpg

The program will now start searching for viable files of the type you selected.

544eb36.jpg

Files that are found are displayed on the left of the window. Once the scan completes , select all the files found and click the save pictures button.

Now select a file other than the memory card to save the recovered files and select OK.

The files will now be written to your hard drive and can be viewed on the location chosen. Unfortunately all meta data and names of files are lost because of the format , but at least the picture can be recovered which is the important part anyways.

If you restored a file which was accidentally deleted , the file name and meta data will be restored.

Please remember to rate this tip if you found it useful.

How do I delete pictures from a coolpix S4000

To delete individual pictures: while viewing the picture, tap the trash can icon on the screen, then tap yes when it asks for confirmation.

To delete all pictures on a memory card: format the card. TAP MENU, tap the wrench icon, select "Format card."

To delete all pictures in internal memory: format internal memory. Tap MENU, tap the wrench icon, select "Format memory."

The delete instructions are in the "Deleting Pictures" section of the manual (page 33 in my copy). The format instructions are in the "Format Memory/Format Card" section of the manual (page 150). If you need a manual, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at

I have a memory card but i cannot take any pictures because it is keep saying that my card is full... but i have no images or videos. I accidentally deleted the whole file on my memory card and thats when...

To correct this, you'll need to format the card in your camera using the camera's format feature. Go to the tools menu, and select the item showing the card's capacity. It will then ask you if you want to format the card. Select yes, making sure that "Low Level Format" is also checked. This WILL ALSO ERASE THE CARD! So format only after you've saved your photos to your computer.

I have nokia n73. there is a problem in its use. whenever i use it , it gives the message of memory full and asks me to delete some data. please tell me some solution.

The phone's internal memory and memory card may be running out of space. Try to delete unnecessary files and free some memory space. Go to Menu>Tools>File Manager. Select the folder or file you want to delete and scroll left or right to switch from the phone's internal memory to the memory card.

Format the memory card and the phone's internal memory if the problem is not resolved above. But it will erase all saved data on both memory.

Memory Card Formatting Procedure
  1. Go to MENU > TOOLS > MEMORY.
  2. On the memory card menu press OPTIONS.
  3. Scroll to Format memory card.
  4. Press Select.
  5. Select Yes
  6. Once the formatting is complete, remove the memory card.
Phone Memory Formatting Procedure
  1. On your phone dial *#7370#.
  2. Press Yes then enter your phone lock code. Default code is 12345.
  3. Formatting is complete when the phone restarts. Insert the memory card and format it again.

Cannot find instructions in manual for Nikon Coolpix S210 on how to delete ALL photos from memory disk. It will let me delete one at a time but I want to wipe the memory card clean. Thanks for any and all...

These instructions are from the Instruction Manual of the Coolpix S 210 and need to be carried out within the Set-Up Menu.

Refer Page 19:

Removing Memory Cards
Before removing memory cards, turn the camera off
and confirm that the power-on lamp is off. Open the
battery-chamber/memory card slot cover and press the
card in 1 to partially eject the card 2. The card can
then be removed by hand.
B Formatting Memory Cards
If the message at right is displayed, the memory card must be
formatted before use (A110). Note that formatting permanently
deletes all pictures and other data on the memory card. Be sure
to make copies of any pictures you wish to keep before formatting
the memory card.
Use the multi selector to choose Yes and press k. The
confirmation dialog will be displayed. To start formatting, choose
Format and press k.
Do not turn the camera off or open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover until
formatting is complete.
• The first time you insert the memory cards used in other devices into the COOLPIX S210, be sure to
format them using this camera (A110).

Refer Pg 110:

 Format Memory/m Format Card
Use this option to format the internal memory or a memory card.
Formatting the Internal Memory
To format the internal memory, remove the memory
card from the camera.
The Format memory option appears in the setup
menu.
Formatting a Memory Card
When the memory card is inserted in the camera, the
Format card option appears in the setup menu.

Hope this helps

When i try to ytyake a picture an error message appears memory card error

Is that exact what it says? I need more information. What kind of camera is it? I'll try to help with the little information I have:

I think your memory card is full and needs to be formatted. Select 'Menu' and look for the 'Format' option and select it. Before you select 'Yes' make sure you save any pictures that you might want to keep onto your computer. Because once the memory card is formatted you won't be able retrieve the pictures. It should ask you before formatting your memory card. While it's formatting make sure to keep the camera steady (if it's an older camera the slightest bump could disrupt the formatting process). This should take no more that a minute or two. When it's complete your memory card will be completely wiped clean. You'll now be able to take pictures. If the message appears again repeat the same process.

Note: When you 'Delete' a picture it doesn't completely leave your memory card. It will continue to take up space until you format your card.

I suggest formatting your memory card often (or you might miss out on a perfect photo opportunity and have to delete pictures you haven't put on your computer yet).

I hope this helped,

Owen
