Freezer not freezing, fridge section not cooling

I have a side by side GSS25SGSASS serial number: GH410313

The freezer does not freeze and the fridge does not cool.

This is the second time that this is happening.

The first time i put the fridge off, removed everything inside, open the doors and left the unit like this for 24 hours or so.

I then put it back on and within a day it started freezing as if nothing happened and worked for about four to five months without a problem.

Now it is doing the same thing once again.

What is the problem please

my jenn-air does the same thing. also my ice maker will dispense ice and then won't turn off in a timely fashion , so ice spills on the floor until it decides to turn off.

Let see if this apply, I have the same problem, but I notice that the lights on the door are off as well. I can hear the water pump kick when I plug the unit but nothing else works. Only the illumination lights from inside. The unit was off for more than 24hrs. There is no ice or nothing in it. Help!!

The problem you have sounds like the defrost heater is not being activated causing the evaporator to choke up with ice which will therfore restrict the airflow through the cabinet,
to resolve this problem you are best to defrost the unit and replace the thermal fuse for the heater' and the defrost sensor, both these parts are located behind the evaporator cover inside the freezer.

hope this is of help murdozzz2

Admiral american fridge freezer constantly blowing cold air into fridge compartment.

Changing the freezer settings won't really make a difference because regardless its still going to be freezing. The way the machine works is the freezer cools the fridge, and there should be a control in the fridge that operates the baffles in the airway between the freezer and fridge and reduces the amount of air that enters into the fresh food section.

Fridge section not cooling enough but freezer OK

Is the fan blowing in the freezer section? Also, check to see if you have airflow thru the damper (vent) in the frig section.

Fridge side not working, freezer side is fine.making weird noisr

Its defrost problem, the freezer should cool, then freeze, then defrost cycle should start. In your case freezer is cooling, then freezing, but its not defrosting. That's why fridge section is not cooling.-------

My 18 year old refrigerator GE model TFX24FG freezer side is not keeping food frozen. Refrigerator side seems to be working normally.

The refrigerator side is at present working properly , but slowly slowly, it will also loose its cooling. This will happen because, freezer side is the side which cools first, then the refrigerator side ( also called as fridge side)., gets cooled. If freezer side is not cooling / freezing properly then fridge side will also loose its cooling ability.------------ And later on both section will loose its cooling.----------- As per the present situation, it indicates problem with compressor or problem with freezer side door not closing properly.---------- Or the temperature in freezer section is not set to proper cooling/ freezing.--------- So first inspect temperature, is it set right? If ok, then check the freezer door , is it properly closed? If ok, then its compressor problem.? The compressor is running non stop, this is indication of compressor problem.---------- Click this link below for more help:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/both-refrigerator-and-freezer-not.html ----------- Later on both section will loose its cooling. -------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

The meat and veg drawers freeze the meat and veggies no matter what setting the temp. is on.

Freezing meat,vegetables. Problem with damper.

For this problem, its indicating towards problem with damper assembly.----------

The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. ----------- The damper is operated by a motor. Its a complete damper assembly with motor included in it.--The damper has door.Which closes and open with the help of motor. In your case the damper door is remained open, its not closing.Due to this the cool air from freezer section is running in to fridge section non-stop.Due to this the vegetables and other food in the bottom drawer freezing.--------- In this problem the damper assembly needs to be replaced.---------------

You can get required parts from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site.

----------- This should help. Thanks.Helpmech.

Iceream is not freezing

The temperature is not set to high cooling.First check the temperature setting. But if temperature is set right and still the ice cream is not cooling then .Problem relates to weak compressor. ------------- The problem is weak compressor. The refrigerant ( R12) in the compressor is got low.The compressor is weak. The compressor needs to be replaced.-------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located.------------ But as you mentioned that ice cream is not freezing, so that means freezer is not freezing to its required temperature.------- This indicates problem with compressor. When compressor cools the freezer section then fridge section gets cold.If freezer section is not getting properly cold then fridge section will not cool properly/.So the problem relates to compressor.---------- In the compressor there is a refrigerant called FREON.With the help of this Freon the compressor cools the freezer section.Freon is a gaseous type cooling agent. The compressor will stop cooling when coolant gets leaked from its chamber.--------- Again recharging the Freon is possible, but the cost for that recharging is approx the cost of new compressor. So its always advisable to get compressor replaced.Because new compressor has warranty for few years.------------------ You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Whirlpool Side by Side: Freezer freezes refrig doesn't cool.

check for a blockage. There is only one cooling section, divided by airflow for freezer / fridge.
Perhaps something sticky is in the vents, or the freezer section has poor airflow, resulting in ice formation.
Unplug the unit for several hours, clean out vents, and make sure freezer section has good airflow from the vents.

Kenmore fridge stopped cooling

sounds like its freezing up on you. check the drain outlet and make sure that its clear. also i would replace the defrost timer on this unit because its suppose to bring on the heaterfs to melyt the ice so thaat yoiu don't have to. they are around 30 mdollars at the appliancew repair store and all you need is the model number and serial number for the uit. after you get it it's either on the very top of the refrigerator section or in the very back. It has 4 wires going to it. good luck.
