For a few days in a row prior to end when I had the TV on it would turn of the picture and the power on indicator would be flashing red. If I would let it sit or unplug it and then plug it back in it usually would turn on and usually last for hours. The next days the same scenario would repeat. There was no image distortion or clicking sounds prior to the final scenario. On day 5 while the TV was on there was a loud bang and snap with a little smoke and smell. The picture went off. Took off the TV cover and went over it very closely. There are no popped transistors or any discoloration on any of the boards or parts. I tried smelling each part and the only part that may have a bit of an odour is on the AC power part of the board on a square plastic part. When I plugged it back in and tried turning it on there is a small clicking sound on the AC board as it sounds like it trying to turn something on. The bottom left continues to flash Red from the power on indicator. Best suggestion what board to replace?

I have the same problem. The only way to get the TV to come on is to unplug it, but once you get it back on it turns itself off again in a few minutes.
SOURCE: I have a 6 year old Samsung PCJ522R 52" TV.
It sounds like at least one of 3 "IHVT",s popped. in short, a "IHVT" is a high voltage transformer. It will have to be replaced along with any other parts that were damaged in the process.
They do produce a strong odor when they pop!!
It is repairable but at a price. there is a good chance that parts will have to be ordered.
you might consider buying a new LCD HDTV instead of fixing this one.
