2006 Outback. What is crackling noise inside instrument panel?
In the last few months I have experienced a strange noise when I switch the engine off. Bit difficult to explain, like there is something discharging in the I/P, as if some electrical device coming to a rest. Sort of crackling noise that stops after a few seconds, like switching off the heat under a frying pan. Tried disconnecting external devices phone charger/GPS/etc, but no luck. Other investigations : no results

How many miles? Is it a clicking "tapping" or a solid tapping?. Subaru engines say many things. A clicking tapping may be the fuel injectors. A solid "tapping" at 25 to 35 sounds more like a rod bearing or a piston slap. A thumping sound is the main bearing. My guess would be a rod bearing.
It appears that you have a bad intermittent connection and those are hard to fix because most of the time, like when you want to work on it, everything is fine! But yes, check the wiring and the switches involved in affected circuits you described.
Your ignition switch is going bad. The strange noise is the starter remaining engaged and locked to the flywheel. Your best bet is to have the starter tested at your local auto parts store, to deduce that it is not, in fact, your starter.
Sounds strange, look in your manual this may be a warning code if it bounces to the same rpm range. if not check your ecu black box ,if water or damp getting inside it may be causing the problem untill the engine heat dryes it out.
try disconnecting the + positive terminal for a few minutes and see if it goes out most likely the 02 sensor needs replacing ...however low fluid levels may also contribute to this oil, brake fluid etc.
pull key out of ignition and wait 2 minutes for the can system to go to sleep(instrument cluster is off) and all doors are shut-no consumers on should be approx. 50 ma.
