I had a similar problem with my portable V Zon player. It would sometimes come on with the V Zon blue screen and work fine, then sometimes have no picture but have sound. I knew the DVD drive was working so I removed the back of the screen. The white cover has two small screws in the bottom and then the white cover just pops off (carefully pry it around the edges.) I traced the problem to the plug that supplies power to the screen ( a white plug with about 10 small red wires attached.) the plug itself was weak and I had to remove it from the socket, clean the connections and carefully pry it back into the socket. It is working fine now but I know where the problem lies if it starts acting up again. You may want to add some dielectric grease to the plug and socket, available at electronic supply stores and auto parts stores.
you may be having a dirty/defective laser lens, try cleaning it firts, not by the usual CD/DVD cleaner but using cottons buds rubbing the lens in circular motion, gently please. if it does not help then you have a defective lens already. you can have it replaced but not practical for such a brand. it will be costly to repair rather. better buy a new unit...red
