Friedrich quietmaster fan does not come on and compressor sounds like it might be laboring when switch is turned to high, medium, low cool. The airconditioner does work if the money saver switch in on. Once it gets to a preset temperature the system shuts down sometimes it starts up if you increase the temperature control but not always.

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.

Friedrich SS16L30 quietmaster AC. runs perfect, except...on low speed, which is the F1 setting, it doesn't run at all. I assume its fan motor or control board? How to isolate? Test points? Thx, Mike

need to verify the motor is getting voltage to the low speed tap. if so, bad motor. if not, find where the voltage stops. switch or relay!

My friedrich quietmaster does not turn on but touchpad turns on

If you are using A/C in cold weather. If there was water in base pan, the condenser fan blade might be frozen in ice. You would need to slide the chassis out 1/2 way out of sleeve to check rear condensor blade.

Unit cools then sound like hissing noise then stops cooling sound like relief

Hi, this hissing you hear is the head pressure getting very high in the system due to the out door coil is very dirty. It shuts the compressor down until it cools off again, then repeats its self again. Take a water hose and wash down the outdoor coil being careful not to flatten the aluminum fins. This will solve your problem! Good luck,

THE COMPRESSOR AND COOLING WORKS BUT THE FAN DOES NOT BLOW ANY AIR.

I would say the fan motor is not working you will need to take the casing off and look to see if the wires to the motor are off, or if the motor is frozen/stuck(will not freely rotate) Tim

Our Quietmaster 's cooling works for a while and then doesn't.

Remove the front cover and make sure the temp sensing wire is in place on the front of the evaporator coils. If it has fallen and is touching the evaporator plumbing the unit can preform as you described.

Also check for signs of icing / ice build up on the evaporator coils after the uint has run for a couple of hours. Ice build up will also cause this symptom. IF you do find that the unit is icing up that can be caused by:
1. A very dirty evaporator
2.. A clogged Air filter
3. Contaminated by internal plumbing debris / clogged freon passages
4. A blower Fan motor running to slow.
5. Freon Pressure and return lines touching together usually either on the side of the unit or just behind the center chassis air wall enroute to the compressor.
6. A corroded electronic control board.

As you can see above there are several things that can cause the symptom your described. It cetainly sounds as if you either have an icing problem or a control board problem.

The next time the symptom occurs... place the unit of fan only for at least 30 minutes and then see if you can switch it to cool, and actually have it cool. If it does cool properly after switching to fan only for 30 minutes you most likely have an icing problem.

Fan will not run on high. Compressor runs fine but the fan will not run on high. Works fine on low and med.

It's the mode switch contactors for the high setting just overview the wiring of the high cool or high fan contactors if it's not there check all leads for the high fan or high cool circuitry.

Condensate blowing thru discharge vents when operating on high cool, unit is pitched 3/8in. there is no standing water in chassis tray, this unit just installed new out of the box

Try a lower fan speed, sometimes the velocity of the fan combined with high humidity lifts the moisture off the fins instead of allowing the water to properly drop to the pan.

Friedrich QuietMaster SS12H10

It is probably either the Compressor and or the capacitor that has failed. The compressor will hum and pull a lot of amps when it has seized up. Sounds like it is time for a new unit.
