SOURCE: HDMI sound?

I had the same problem with my PS3. I have a HD cable box with HDMI out, a Sony DVD player with HDMI out. The Sony receiver STR-DG800 only has the HDMI inputs (sat/tv and dvd) and the HDMI is only a pass through port and will not decode audio.
I purchase a HDMI 4 port switch from Newegg (HS-41A0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812168003&Tpk=HS-41A0) to hook up the DVD and PS3 to the DVD HDMI and switch between the DVD player and the PS3. It took me several days to figure out how to make this work with the settings on the reciver.

1 the DVD player must use the coaxial in jack for sound on the receiver.
2. the PS3 must use the optical connection on video1
3. the sound settings in the PS3 must be set to PCM
4. set the sound setting on the receiver to the following

a. on the remote press AMP button then the MENU button, next press the down arrow to you see 5- AUDIO SET - then press enter.
b.set sound decode priorty to PCM
c. next scroll down to you see digital assign - press enter
assign VID1 OPTICAL to DVD ( this allows the pcm output from the PS3 to play through the receiver), next assign DVD to COAXIAL setting DVD to DVD (this allows the digital sound to play from your DVD player).

So when you use your remote and select DVD, you can use your PS3 or DVD through the 1 DVD HDMI port.

SOURCE: How to connect BLU-RAY DVD player to Pioneer Plasma TV via HDMI

The best possible solution to your problem is :
Connect your blu ray player directly to the HDMI input of you Plasma and watch HD video....
and connect the 5.1/7.1 sound thru the optical or the coaxial link directly to your AVR 3805.
You will not loose anything on the Blu-Ray.
The sound is best processsed by the AVR3805, while the video, which is the real upgrade (BluRay) in terms of resolution of picture would be processed by your plasma.

Connect and Enjoy

SOURCE: Apple TV and Bose Home Theater

I had the same problem.
I could not get HDMI to HDMI to work.

i fixed it (work around), by connecting ATV HDMI to DVD HDMI port on V30, i then connect L&R to AUX.  I set the Bose remote for controlling ATV to AUX.
so to use ATV with Bose remote i know press DVD, this gives me the correct display but not audio, i then press AUX and this gives me ATV control and audio.

interesting, when i first set this up (trial and error), it didn't work.  I was doing some cable management clean up, when i got a fright and the thing started working...but i have a ghost in my house so that is probably a more plausible reason why its working now.
it feels like this product is only 90% finished

I need to hook up dvd to the tv so I can record

Hi Nellie.
Connect the DVD Recorder Video/Audio OUT to the TV (In most cases your TV must have a Audio/Video input) using one of the methods below Connect Audio (Red/White) and Video (Yellow) OUT on the DVD recorder to the Television Audio / Video IN. Connect the HDMI OUT on the DVD Recorder if one is available to the Television HDMI IN.
try this link.

How to connect surround sound, tv,wii, dvd

Depends on your TV, surround system, and the provided connections.

The most common with a decent LCD TV is connected all the input devices (DVD, Wii, etc) to the TV via their respective connections. Run the audio from the TV to the receiver via HDMI or SPDIF or other audio out line on your TV. Set TV to output audio through that line always and you are done.

Quality audio receivers will have a panel where you connect everything to it, then connect the TV to it via HDMI. It will play the audio and send the video signal via HDMI in what is called a pass through. This will only be an option on quality, mid to high end audio receivers.

In either case, reading the manual for the receiver will tell you how to do this.

I need to connect a samsung bluray/receiver to the tv and cable box

Here is the easiest way to do so.
  1. Connect the Cable box and any other devices (ie game systems, VCR, ETC) to the TV.
  2. Locate the Audio OUT on the back of the TV.
  3. Connect cable from the Audio OUT on the TV to the Audio IN on the BluRay
  4. If your TV supports HDMI then connect a HDMI cable from the HDMI out on the receiver to an available HDMI input on the TV.
  5. By connecting in this version when you tune your receiver to AUX this will play what ever input you have selected on the TV through the surround speakers.
  6. When watching DVD make sure to change input back to DVD.
Note: Make sure you turn the volume all the way down on the TV to avoid distortion due to the delay between the receiver sound and the TV.

Enjoy the new toy,
Robert

RX-V465 Yamaha Reciver we can get picture but no sound w/PS3

Check HDMI Sound settings:
Enter Setup menu via remote, then Func. Setup / HDMI / Audio. You can choose from Amp (sound will be played via Yamaha), TV (sound will go straight via HDMI out to your TV and not play on Yamaha) and Amp+TV (Yamaha will play the sound and also pass it to the TV).
Also what is your source? DVD or some network player? For example Yamaha cannot decode audio in AAC or other computer formats, so be sure to change the audio settings of your player to output PCM and not raw/bitstream.

Connection/configuration issue: I have a Denon

Just confirming my understanding of your connections :

1). The DVD1800BD output HDMI is connected to AVR3808's DVD-in HDMI.
2). The DVD/VHS recorder output HDMI is connected to AVR3808's DVR-in HDMI.
3). The DVD/VHS recorder input (S-video and L/R Audio) is connected to AVR3808's DVR-out(SVideo and L/R Audio).
Right?

What other inputs have been connect to your AVR3808?
Does the recorder have Component Video inputs?

Please also connect DVD1800BD's output(Component video, S-Video and L/R Audio) to AVR3808s' DVD-in similar inputs and try recording onto your recorder.

Actually, its possible that you may be having a HDMI HDCP communication issue(High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) with the source product (DVD1800BD). First check with the source equipment manufacturer for any updates to their products.

If HDMI video is not passing through your AVR3808, you can connect it thru the alternate connection method I have mentioned above.

If the connections/recording still does not happen with the added anolog cables, then let me know , we can trouble shoot it further.
I hope the above helps.

Please do rate this solution and thanks for using FixYa!

Hi,

This is a security feature of the High Definition Content that it does not allow veiwing of any high def content on dual displays.

There is a very simple fix to it...
Go to Nvidia control panel..
Select setup multiple displays..
Choose the option Single display ( one display at a time ).

Thats it.. This should enable you to play the blue ray dvds on the external display.
