Recently my Coolpix 8700 images have fine white horizontal lines. Lines appear when more light is present. When Use Flash lines disapear.
If I use camera for recording films all is OK.

    Hi there ,

I have the same problem ..but the strnge thing is that in filming mode ..the lines DO NOT appear ..

I have had 3 of the 8 Nikon 8700 cameras I have at work develop the same horizontal lines on the images. All three of the cameras were bought in late 2004. Two of them went out last summer and I just sent the last one into the service center today. This is the only way they ca I asked Nikon if this was a common problem and they ignored the question. I am disapointed in them and will look at another make of camera when I upgrade

Same Problem- lines across the imagers- seemed to be associated somewhat with the zoom level- but not always- issue was periodic a first but increasingin in frequency and duration- at a lose to figure out what the issue is- may not send for repair- may replace with another brand

This is not a solution , but only a work around. If you do at least 1/3 zoom on your lens before clicking a photo, these lines will not appear. But this not not a convenient way I agree.
Also this surely means that the CCD is not the problem otherwise it would have never worked ( electronic parts cant simply dont start to work when you zoom ringht ? ). Surely Nikon is fixing the issue, but cheating the customers by charging for a part is not defective in the first place

I had the same problem few months back!
the lines appeared when i took pics in low light conditions, then after a while i could see em in the all the pics (even when i clicked photos with flash or during daylight). I got it checked at a Nikno Service Center. Apparently the CCD chip was damaged and had to be replaced, they got it from another model cause Nikon doesn't manufacture 8700 anymore.
Cost me around 220 USD
hope it helps :-)

Samsung LNS4041DX/XAA White horizontal lines

Hi my name is Roety,
I can help you with your issue ,
If the lines are present on every input you most likely have a bad screen. We usually replace the mainboard first because its cheaper .

This sure looks like a CCD image sensor failure. If so, you can't fix this yourself. If the camera is less than a year old, Canon will fix this for you under warranty. Call 1-800-OK-CANON.

Horizontal white lines

Known defect in CCD. Nikon will fix this for you if you send it to them. I had the same problem:
