Helpful Andrew (above) has provided details of one sort of 2.5 Land Rover engine. You didn't state which model you had.
There is a 2.5 fitted to the Freelander that is a vee-6 and the figures above do not apply.
For this engine the data page says there is no requirement to fit new bolts. I would say it is optional but the originals should be checked and any stretched or pitted/corroded bolts should be replaced. Thoroughly clean all threads and oil or grease the bolts.
Starting in the centre of a cylinder head and working outwards in a spiral pattern tighten the bolts in four stages (Nm) 25+25+25 and then by a further 180 degrees.
Heat engine to operating temp, add a good oil flush for 30 mins at 1500rpm.
Drain oil and fit new filter. Add correct engine oil...good quality stuff.
Run car and repeat this every 4 months foa year
thats the correct way the immobilisor automaticlly resets ,if you lock the door with the key then immobilisor isnt on ,older models you could remove fuse F1 to shut off immobilisor but not on the later 25 model
Have you checked your fuses? This is the first place I look when probs with dash/lights come up. Daddy taught me well. Another excellent source of troubleshooting and repair is a Chiltons/Haynes repair manual for your make/model/year vehicle.
had this same problem on a few different model cars...what I had to do was remove the radio and get all the numbers off of the unit...then call the dealer and they can get you the code...hope this helps
