My top roller will not turn. Any suggestions what to try?

  • scott westin Sep 30, 2017

More than likely your bearings for the top roller are seized up. If the rest of the rollers do roll then that most likely is your problem area. Westco Laminating Svcs 405-324-6092

You may have the film tension set too tight or a pulley has come loose from the drive train. The drive train is behind the right cover.

Makita 2012nb planer. The drive (top) sprocket keeps stripping out the flats on its arbor hole and the allen bolt loosens and backs out. Not sure which happens first. I've tried high strength loctite...

I think your screw is broken you should change the screw which attach the rollers and the blade. If you start a machine, screw turn out and let the roller stop rolling that means your screw and the ring are broken, you have to change them.

Cannon dr-2580c it was not feeding without a push so i put in new rollers and it never helped . any ideas?

I have many years experience repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.

Can you see if the small grey roller on the top is turning when your trying to feed in a sheet of paper? If so then your problem is with one of the rollers in the back of the machine. If its not turning then you have either a belt tension problem or a bad pick up motor.

If the small grey roller is turning then lift up the top half of the scanner, another words open it up like there was a peice of paper jammed in it. With the power turned off to your scanner run your hand over the black rollers on the top they should all spin freely. The small black rollers are mounted on shaft and each row is on one shaft so those 4 or 5 shafts need to spin freely or the paper will not pass through the machine. If one of them is dragging or binding then there probably is gunk in one of the bronze rollers at the end of the shaft. If you can locate the bad shaft then you need to remove the silver plate that covers those shafts there are 2 or 3 phillips screws on each side of that silver plate (both sides) that need to be removed so you can have access to the bad bushing. Once you locate the bad roller and bushing to remove the bushing you push up on the spring clip that holds it in. There is a tab to push up on and then rock the bushing until it slides out of the machine. Once you have it in your hand clean out the gunk and use some white grease and then reinstall it back on the shaft and then reinstall the silver cover back on the machine the roller should spin freely now and your problem is corrected.

If its one of the lower rollers you probably will hear a metal on metal sound. If you try to spin these rollers by hand you will feel resistance since they are belt driven. If you push hard and they do all spin and you dont hear a metal sound like metal on metal or a squeeking sound your ok. If you do hear a metal on metal sound or a squeeking sound I would recommend you call your local Canon dealer for the repair only because taking the scanner apart is easy putting it back together again is a little tricky. I can explain how to do it to you but its time consuming on the reassembly.

I hope this helps you out with your problem.

My HP printer paper get stuck in top feeder whenever I try to fax

Lift the cover to the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) and remove any paper debris from the rollers. Also, clean the rollers with a very damp cloth and a dab od dish washing detergent.
Also, check to see that the spring loaded lever is in place.

Clear the jam from the automatic document feeder (ADF)
  1. Make sure the product is turned off and the power cord is unplugged.
  2. Grasp the upper edge of the automatic document feeder (ADF) assembly and open it.
  3. Raise the roller assembly.
  4. Gently remove any jammed paper from the ADF.
  5. Lower the roller assembly.
  6. Close the ADF assembly.
  7. Plug the power cord back into the product.
  8. Press the Power button (c01346625.gif ) to turn the product on.
  9. Try the print job again.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Canon PC 1060 will not SCAN

Cleaning the rubber rollers on the ADF may help it to pull the paper through; I did it on my 1060 and I think it helped. (This was suggested in another post some time ago.)

Press Additional Functions. Use arrow keys to find ADJUST/CLEAN; press SET. Use arrow keys to find CLEAN ADF ROLLER. Open the ADF. Press SET. Each time you press SET, the rollers will rotate a partial turn. With the corner of a soft cloth slightly moistened with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, wipe the black rubber rollers both on the bottom and top of the ADF. Push SET again and rub again, several times. (DO NOT use alcohol on the long white roller! Use a dry cloth only, if you want to clean it.) Push STOP/RESET when you're done.

Touch the rollers only after they stop--not while they are rotating!

No guarantees, but it may be worth a try.

Samsung scx 4100 cleaning the roller

one way to clean those rollers is to take the printer apart. this would provide you with enough room to fix it and clean it.

however, if the suggestion of taking it apart does not sound good, you can still actually have that cleaned while it is turned on. as what you mentioned, you are asking how would it turn while cleaning it. i suggest that you try using the qtip and tune the printer to turned on. so that you can actually see what your doing with the roller.

Paper jam

Look where you put the paper in. See if you can see inside there and see the roller that turns and picks up the paper. If you can, make a mixture of alcohol and a little dish soap. Damp a rag with it, and reach in there to clean the rollers.  See if the rollers will turn manually, but be careful not to force anything.  Another way to get to the whole roller, would be to start making a print, while watching the rollers.  As soon as the rollers have turned half way, unplug the printer.  Now you can reach the other side and clean that.

There is another way to clean the rollers.  Using the alcohol mix, take a single sheet of paper, and damp one half of it with the solution.  Stick the single sheet in the paper tray, and make a print, but hold on to the paper so that it doesn't feed through the machine.  Do this several times, and the rollers turning against the wet paper should clean them.

Try to print again. It might take a few tries. The rollers have to turn against the paper and dry themselves off again.

If this works, then you need new rollers (cleaning them will only make them work temporarily and the problem will come more frequently until you change them).
