How do I remove fonts from The Printshop 23.1?

Windows programs install fonts in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. The fonts in that folder are accessible by all Windows programs - including Broderbund programs. However, older versions of Print Shop and PrintMaster are designed to use ONLY *.ttf fonts . So, the only fonts that those Broderbund programs can access in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder are *.ttf fonts.

NOTE: Since both Print Shop 2.0 & 3.0 and PrintMaster 2.0, 2011 and 2012 do not access fonts from Broderbund's Core Fonts folder, the following information does not apply to those versions of Print Shop and Printmaster.

Older versions of Print Shop and PrintMaster install fonts in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Broderbund\Core Fonts folder. The fonts installed in that folder are accessible ONLY in Broderbund programs and are NOT accessible in other Windows programs.

Some newer versions of Print Shop and PrintMaster install shortcuts for some (but not all) Broderbund fonts in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. When shortcuts for Broderbund fonts are installed in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder, those fonts will be accessible in all Windows programs.

For all other Broderbund fonts - which don't have a shortcut in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder - the most efficient way to use those fonts in other Windows programs would be to manually install those fonts in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder.

To install Broderbund fonts into the C:\Windows\Fonts folder, do this:

WinXP & WinVista:

1. Open the C:\Windows\Fonts folder (either by going to Control Panel then clicking on 'Fonts' or by opening Windows Explorer then selecting the C:\Windows\Fonts folder)

2. When the Fonts window opens, click on 'File' in the menubar then click on 'Install New Font' in the menu that drops down.

3. When the Add Fonts window opens, click in the box next to 'Copy fonts to Font folder' (to remove the checkmark).

NOTE: When the checkmark is removed from the box next to 'Copy fonts to Font folder', the end result will be one font file in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Broderbund\Core Fonts folder and a shortcut to that font file in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. If the checkmark is not removed, you will end up with two identical font files - one in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Broderbund\Core Fonts folder and one in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. Since it's not absolutely necessary to have font files in both folders, you can save some hard drive space by making sure that the checkmark is removed from the box next to 'Copy fonts to Font folder'.

4. Using the Folders: box on the bottom left side of the Add Fonts window, navigate to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Broderbund\Core Fonts folder. Then, double-click on the Core Fonts folder.

6. After the font names are displayed, click on the name of the font you want to install, then click on OK. After the font is installed, it should appear in the fonts lists for all of your installed software.

If you don't mind having two identical font files on your hard drive, you can install Broderbund fonts by simply copying the font file from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Broderbund\Core Fonts folder to the C:\Windows\Fonts folder.

Windows 7:

Either simply copy the font file to the C:\Windows\Fonts folder or right click on the font file then select 'Install' from the menu that drops down.

Win98 or WinME:

WARNING: If you are using Win98 or WinME, you will want to be sure to NOT have more than 750 fonts installed in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder - because more than 750 installed fonts on Win98 or WinME can cause a multitude of problems.

I have a 64 bit computer and I am trying to install Parsons Hebrew Tutor which is an 8 bit program. Is there anyway possible to do this?

What OS were you previously using with the program? This program ran well under Win98 but could run in Windows XP. This is for the version released in 1997. Some reviewers noted problems with the fonts, screen resolution and color attributes under XP.

I think the only way you might be able to run the program is in a second computer (physical, dual boot or virtual). What OS are you currently running? If you have Windows7 Pro or Ultimate, you can run a virtual XP for free. (If you have Home Premium, you can upgrade to Pro or Ultimate for a fee.) Download and install Virtual PC and XP mode from Microsoft. Install them in order. Then install the Hebrew Tutor on the XP computer. You may need to copy the fonts to the System font folder (either from the tutor disk or the folder that is installed with the Hebrew Tutor program)
To install a font, follow these steps in the XP system:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type the following command, and then click OK: %windir%\fonts
  3. On the File menu, click Install New Font.
  4. In the Drives box, click the drive that contains the font that you want to add.
  5. In the Folders box, click the folder that contains the font that you want to add, and then click OK.
  6. In the List of fonts box, click the font that you want to add. To select more than one font at a time, press and hold the CTRL key while you select each font.
  7. Click to select the Copy Fonts To Fonts Folder check box. The new font is saved in the Windows\Fonts folder.
  8. Click OK.
(Other virtual computer programs are Parallels and VMWare.) All of the other options will require a licensed version of the older Windows OS. If you decide to run the program under Windows 98, you will not be able to use the XP mode. Instead you will need one of the other options I have listed.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(if you are running a UNIX or MAC OS, you can do something similar with a virtual computer. For UNIX try WINE (which runs many Windows programs). For a Mac, you will need a virtualization program and a licensed copy of Windows XP.)

My problem is printing a section of a saved jpg. graphic. All parts of the poster print correctly except for one section that prints two letters in block instead of the arched shape of the text block. ...

I haven't used that version of printmaster but if you can see it correctly on the screen but not when printed I would check the name of the font used and then check to see if that font is installed in windows. Go to the font folder and look for it. If i recall PrintMaster comes with some fonts that are not included in windows. You can add fonts to windows btw.

Unfortunately, the 'New' PrintMaster 2011 will not import any older PrintMaster .sig files created prior to PrintMaster 2.0. This means that over 1,100 projects I have, going back to 2004 are now useless. Did they even consider this before coming out with the new version? Is this the way that Broderbund treats long time customers of their product? Apparently so...so I will no longer be using any of their products from now on. I don't see any excuse for their actions.

My Clarion application sends codes directly to the (TM-H6000II) printer. I need to print in Hebrew but the printer seems to insist on Greek (I think!). I added the following code to the printer start: ...

This most likely requires that you get the Hebrew Font set from the Manufacturer and install it in the Printer Firm ware or update the Hebrew Font Set in your computer software. Either should resolve your problem. The printing that you currently see is, without actually seeing it, the result of the printer trying to print character codes that it does not recognize. I would try updating the Firmware in your printer first then if that failed update the Hebrew Font codes and character set and install that. Epson should have the download on their website. The information you need for the software Font download will depend on what software you are using.

I bought a new computer with Windows 7. Is Printmaster 18 compatible? I have started to install it but a message came up stating there were 'compatibility issues' Is this correct and if so, what can I do?

This should answer your question

I understand that you are inquiring if Printmaster 18 is compatible with Windows 7. Our developers have tested every aspect of Printmaster 18 to see if it will function properly on Windows 7. It has passed all tests except one, which is the Save As PDF feature. Our developers just became aware of this and are working on a resolution to make it work on the Windows 7 operating system. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, but we can assure you that we will provide a fix for this as soon as possible.
