Door started malfunctioning about a year ago. It will not work unless door is slammed. Finally came off top hinge. Now it works fine but I need to reinstall door. How?
Is it the hinge or the mount that the hinge attaches to bad?
Testimonial: "The small metal hinge came off from door. It looks OK. I see a metal dowel type of connector but it will not come down. Door is sealed, no screws to open panel where glass is"

Nick,
Usual life span of a microwave is 7 to 10 years. Unless you are going to try to attempt a repair yourself, I would recommend getting a new microwave. You will at least then be covered by a new warranty as well.
You will need to remove microwave to access casing, remove casing and check door micro-switch. The switch activator will need adjusting to enable door interlock to activate.
The locking mechanism is not closing completely unless you slam the door because the plastic parts don't slide easily after a couple of years. We found that putting a small amount of vegetable oil on the 2 locking hooks in the door will allow the components to slide easily and close properly so the machine will function correctly.
I would say the mount for your bottom or top door switch is loose, misaligned, or broken. And you may have a failed door as well. See my help file on door switches here.
Slamming the door and opening the door while it's cooking instead of hitting the "Stop" pad before opening it both contribute to door switch trouble.
The service manuals covering this model are here and here.
You can order Sharp parts from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.
This is a malfunction and must be checked to confirm if the microwave itself is working when the door is open which is dangerous. The reason can be due to a short in the door lock switch or a mis-alignment of the door switch. Also a malfunction of the main board, relay cannot be ruled out.Remove power and close the door with a gentle force , few times so as to disengage any lock switch defect. now try if the fan cuts off or else it is best to take opinion as you will need to disconnect the HT section to check this fault to prevent any stray microwave.
