Generally this type of problem arises due to Battey. But in u r case it appears like a Mother Board Problem.So u better to visit nearer HP/compaq Service Station u can extende warranty for another year if ur previous extended warranty expired within 6 months...there is a provision in HP Customer Support.
Apart from this You can buy third party Mother boards compatible for V 2000 in other Laptop Acessories store

I am also faced same situation working as a computer service engineer.But the problem is company will not take the responsibility of warranty expiered products and they not want repair also.
So
1.You can buy brand new Mother Board for u r HP Compaq Presario V2000 PC Notebook. other than HP you can purchase from ebay

2.If u want repair of u r mother Board or Laptop Just give me u r Location or city name,I will u give the nearest laptop Mother Board Service centre Adress deffinately.
3.Finally If u ready or in the position to purchase new Laptop that is Better Choice.

The issue of not powering up was persisting for quite some time (while the warranty was there) but it was working after a few trials. Earlier during the warranty period various other problems also appeared viz. display getting spots, laptop suddenly gets 'phisical memory dump' problem and shuts down on its own, Battery back-up period reduced to five minutes etc. As such, it was taken to the service center no. of times and with each problem solved a new problem appeared. That's why I preferred to use it with the above problem (as I was using it at a remote area)rather than take it to the service center again and agaqin.
Is there a posibility to get the faulty mother board repaired preferably at Kolkata? I am unable to decide whether to get the motherboard changed at the cost of Rs. 25,000/-, or go for a new laptop.
