SOURCE: Ice tray sometimes stuck when dumping off ice

Your icemaker tray has an update for the water flowing over the tray.  You will need to call a qualified LG technician to get it replaced.  Also, the tray is twisted because it binds itself against the hinge pin on the left side.  To stop this, spray some cooking spray oil in the left hinge pin and it should unbind itself and return to normal.

SOURCE: Ice Maker Freezing Up and Ice not dispensing

Check your ice cube tray to see if it is warped. Mine was. I took the tray off and dipped it into boiling water and remoulded it to the original shape and re-installed it. So far no problems. The tray gets warped because of the ice cube release mechanism. The tray is rotated around until it meets a block on one corner which creates the twisting motion we used to do on manual trays. Over time it tends to warp the tray. Good luck

SOURCE: Ice not dropping

Press the little button on the bottom right of the ice maker and clear the tray of ice. The maker has to be turned on for the tray to tilt and empty. This corrected the problem for me. The freezer side may have been left open and and the ice maker filled the tray while the door was open, I suspect.

SOURCE: Ice tray sometimes stuck when dumping off ice

I am an attorney near Philadelphia who is considering initiating a class action against LG related to the defective design of their ice maker. I have clients in different states who have had problems that LG fixed, but the problems re-occurred after the warranty expired. I've been advised by mechanics that leaks are inevitable based on the design. Apparently this is a design that LG had used years ago but had discontinued for a while because of leak problems. I'm usually on the defense side of product liability cases, but this seems to be a common defect. If you are interesed in such a suit, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. SOURCE: LG SXS Refrigerator LSC26905 ice maker

I was able to order the ice tray myself and install it in the fridge - it's not hard. I ordered from one of the parts sellers linked to at the LG website, not those listed in other posts here.

Here's how to replace the tray:

You need to remove the tray dumping mechanism to do this.

  1. Remove the ice bin, set it aside (don't forget to deal with the ice melt).
  2. Turn the ice maker off (LG says to unplug the fridge, I didn't).
  3. On the left hand side of the ice tray dumping mechanism there is a screw helping to keep the entire thing suspended from the ceiling of the freezer. Remove that screw- don't worry, the mechanism will stay put for now.
  4. The dumping mechanism can now slide forward- note that you can't completely remove it from the freezer yet, but slide it forward and it will no longer be suspended from the ceiling. Don't let it drop or hang.
  5. You need to disconnect its power supply now. On the left hand side you should see a small bundle of wires coming from the back of the freezer to the dumping mechanism. It connects to the dumping mechanism's set of wires with a pair of white plugs. Pull these plugs apart. You may need to pry the catch on these plugs apart while you pull.
  6. Now you can take the dumping mechanism out of the freezer (and close your freezer).
  7. To remove the ice tray you need to slide the housing that contains the rotating motor out of the housing. This is on the right side of the mechanism. If you have trouble identifying it look at the underside of the entire thing and you'll see a small "test" button. That button is on the motor.
  8. To remove the motor you'll see two catches on the right side- you'll need to pull these catches out without breaking anything. You'll be able to slide the motor down and out when you get it right.
  9. Sliding the motor out lets you get the old ice tray out now. There is probably a set of white wires routed through a little catch on the old ice tray that you'll need to free.
  10. Put the new ice tray back on the motor. You'll need to get the left side secured at the same time you get the motor housing in its catches of the dumping mechanism.
  11. Reroute those white wires back on the new ice tray.
  12. Reconnect the electric wires to the housing.
  13. Slide the entire dumping housing back onto the ceiling of the freezer and screw in on the left side.
That's it. You can press that test button on the underside of the motor. This will dump the tray and immediately refill it with water so you can observe if everything is working.

Freezer wont make ice cubes

This is not difficult to troubleshoot.
  • When the arm is up the ice maker is off
  • When the bucket is full the arm is up the maker is off.
  • If the ice maker has a on/off button in off the ice maker is off
  • If the ice maker internal heater fails the cubes will not release and the white plastic ejector arms will be rotated CCW and pressing against the ice in the tray, Normal position for ejector arms is vertical.
  • If water solenoid has failed or water supply not available the ice maker will cycle. The ice tray will be empty,(hard to see if ice tray is empty). Check and replace water fill solenoid.
  • If ice in tray and ejector arms vertical several possibilities.
    • Freezer not cold enough to trip thermostat in ice maker to initiate release cycle.
    • Check freezer temperature <10 Fahrenheit thermostat in ice maker failure
    • Ice maker motor failure,
    • Internal ice maker electrical connections rotary switch failure,
The best way to check the operation is to manually lock the arm up into the off retention position. Wait a minimum of one hour. Open door and release arm down. Observe the operation of the ice maker. Is after a minute or so the ejector arm does not rotate then it is likely the ice maker has failed internally. If the ejector turns and no ice than you can assume either the water supply is off external from the refrigerator or more likely the water solenoid located behind the bottom back cover has failed. It is also possible that the hose that connects the solenoid to the ice maker has frozen right where it enters the freezer just above the ice maker. You should see ice built up at the entrance where the water fills the tray if this has occurred.

How do I fix my ice maker? It has ice in it but it just will not release it into the tray.

Hello Neal, There is a heating element in the bottom of the ice cube tray that warms up to release the ice cubes. I would say that yours has burned out.

Ice maker won t dump ice

The ice is stuck in the tray because the heater element has not slightly melted the ice so it can be pushed out of tray. Check for continuity of element and/or proper cam operation (motor that controls all of the operations).

My ice tray moves fine and makes ice but for some reason it won't release the ice when it turns. Then the water tries to fill up over the full tray and makes a big mess. Any suggestions?

Either the icemaker support is broken, DA61-02205A or the ice tray is damaged or has lime buildup. The ice tray is supposed to twist when it flips: an off-center stud on the tray catches the support, while the tray is still turning. If it does twist but does not release ice - replace or clean the ice tray, DA63-01453B

Good luck,

Ice tray jammed sideways in samsung fridge freezer

Have you tried using a hair dryer to defrost around the ice tray. Contrary to normal, when ice freezes it expands due to trapped air, this will expand the ice tray. If you heat it the ice will meltmaybe releasing the tray enough to push it around.

Ice cube tray not releasing cubes

The ice maker system is pretty simple.. A motor rotates with a gear reduction system and as it rotates... a switch is tripped when the motor reaches a certain point on its rotation... that switch lets water in for a prescribed period of time ( normally that is adjustable) and then as the motor rotates some more.. the ice tray has had adequate time for that ice to freeze and is positioned for it to be released,..at that time.. a small heating element is energized to release those ice cubes and the cubes fall from the tray into the bucket.. Chances are your heater is not working, unplugged or defective.. I would start by thawing everything out and getting the system free of any and all ice.. If after you've cleaned it all up.. and it still fails to release ice..you could be over-filling your tray and that freezes .. which in turn causes the system to fail too..You may need to adjust the fill level by throttle back on the water or if your system has a fill level control.. adjust that.. but first things first.. get the system back to a known good state.. ( meaning free from all ice ) so that you can monitor its performance,. Hope that helps...
