Ram assurance Dear Sir/Maddam I have a Asus P5VDC-MX supported rams are supposedly: Supported RAM Speeds400 MHz · 266 MHz · 533 MHz · 333 MHz But just read some put a 677mhz in and works fine.. My problem is I want to buy This ram that is high performance and need to know if it will work..I think not but I am no technician. Or.. 2GB Corsair (2x XMS2 1GB) TWIN2X2048-6400C4 PC-6400 DDR2 RAM, 2x240-pin DIMMs, Non ECC Unbuffered, 4-4-4-12 * 2GHz of DDR2 Memory * SPD Includes Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP) * Implemented Using 64M x 8 DDR2 SDRAMs * 100% Tested at 800MHz in High Performance DDR2 Motherboards Or..Simply I have to get standard ram ie. Supported RAM Speeds400 MHz · 266 MHz · 533 MHz · 333 MHz I have a 450 psu but that is regardless isn't it. Thanks in advance for any advice. wayneard Rank: Guru Rating: 89%, 413 votes Your motherboard can take DDR or DDR2 RAM modules. Crucial says: "Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200,DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot." No sense getting 4GB since the max is 2GB. You can get higher speed RAM (PC2-6400) because it is backward compatible. I would go with the 2 X 1GB Corsair from the ones listed. Ok I would have contacted wayneard directly but seems not possible ok fair enough. I purchased the ram I suggested and wayneard agreed to get but my comp (XPPro) is not recognizing the ram only 1 GB On testing each stick they work but are reconized as 512mb now is this becouse of the frequency's ie. I was right and Wayneard was half right But this aside it works with the other 1 gb stick giving me 1.50GB should I use thisyou think or that jeapordizes duel support or could damage MB So 1 corsairbut is recxonized as (512) + 1 gb 266 frequency ..So obviousley it is up to me..I test and see if it works better but is a shame i can't use both corsairs..well I can but only gives me 1 GB 512 each.. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. Sharkos If it works better that is all that matters..yes

Hey Wayneardo,Good to hear from you just the man I wanted to talk too..Ok tryied changing DRAM speeds to 533Mhz but to no avail..
However their is DRAM timing has a few tweaks but best not to touch this..yes?
So if ram is not reading 2 gb I am defienatley not getting 2gb..completely different to how HD can show incorrect values..yes
BTW if I had of bought the same cheap gig stick I have now I would have the same issue..yes Thanks again Wayneard.
    Salute

  • sharkos22 Jun 24, 2009

Wayneard, yes it shows 512 on each corsair ram both the same.
Yes when both are in the read 1Gb total.
    Tested frequencys cas3/trcd4/trcd4/tras12 no avail..
    cas4/trcd5/trcd5tras12 no avail
cas5/3 highest setting caused the system to beep constant.Which I have not been able to return to normal..
    yes I have a card gddr2 512mb.

  • sharkos22 Jun 24, 2009

Sorry Waynardo I lost it sorry..It has powered back on but i feel I should just use the one corsair gig stick and my old gig stick..so I atleat get 1.50gb

  • sharkos22 Jun 24, 2009

    Best option you think?..Friend

  • sharkos22 Jun 24, 2009

No inconvenience friend..Do think it's worth changing the 533mhz to 400mhz or just leave it to auto and the ram would not be damaging mb would it should be fine. So 1 gb corsair and old ram should be fine?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Just leave on Auto. I did read that the slower of the 2 should be in slot 0 and the other in slot 1.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

No problem. I would say YES, until you can upgrade your MB to one that can handle the higher performance RAM. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

If you still can't get to the BIOS: Remove power cord. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Remove the RAM. Remove the battery for 10 minutes. Reinstall battery. Reinstall RAM. Connect power. Power up. That should reset your BIOS.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Sorry. Still here. I can't monitor it 24/7. Any luck getting back into the BIOS?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Just want to get it straight. When you try ONE module it only shows 512 MB. Either module? And when you install both, it only shows 1GB total? Try the timing settings I posted with the Freq. set at 400Mhz. If that doesn't work, you can always go back in and set it back to AUTO. And...are you using the integrated video, or do you have a separate card? Awaiting a reply.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

If that doesn't do the trick, also try a manual setting on the DRAM Timing: CAS - 3 (I believe that is the max for your BIOS. If it should have 4, set it at 4.) TRCD - 4 TRP - 4 TRAS - 12 I'll be watching for a reply. Also, have you ever updated the BIOS on this motherboard?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Sharkos, instead of 533, set the DRAM freq. to 400 Mhz. Sorry.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Hey Sharkos. Surprise! It's me! Sorry, it shoulda worked....however.... I just pulled up your motherboard manual and found this warning at the beginning of the RAM section: Due to chipset resource allocation, the system may detect less than 2 GB system memory when you installed two 1 GB DDR2 or DDR memory modules. However....there are some BIOS settings that may affect the amount. On the Advanced menu, select the DRAM Frequency and set it to the max. (533 Mhz I believe.) Try that and Comment back. BTW, your motherboard does not support Dual-channel, so using 2 different speeds/types is not an issue.

The schematic layout of the P5VDC-MX on the user manual shows that there are 4 DIMM banks, set as 2 X 2 rows, 2 DDR2 and 2 DDR.

The user manual explicity states:
Ram assurance - cbae7ab.jpg

I am running different frequency modules without any problems. With the info above provided by ASUS, it may be possible that a fix could be available with a BIOS update. Otherwise, you can opt to use a lower capacity RAM along with your 1GB Corsair.

Hope this helps.

Can asus p5gz-mx support 2gb kingston 800mhz ram

Click here to view the Specifications of your computer mainboard.

Unfortunately only 2 x DIMM, max. 2GB, DDR2 533/400 MHz memory modules are supported.
Meaning that it is not possible for the 2gb kingston 800mhz RAM to run, according to the Specs.

Sorry to inform you of this fact!

Ram

Your motherboard can take DDR or DDR2 RAM modules.

Or consider the options on Crucial's site. See this page:

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=P5VDC-MX

Two 1GB modules of DDR2 PC2-5300 run about $34 US.

(PS. Your 450W power supply will handle about anything.)
