I recently had a toshiba 57h81 rear projections screen tv given to me. I tried to use the auto focus feature and noticed that the green lines are curved towards the middle of the screen. When I tried to do the adjusment manually I noticed the the green lines in the four corners were also curved. What can be done to fix this and is it something I can do myself or do I need to take it to a repair shop

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.
This tv have a problems known as a Convergence problems,it dead.The tv convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead.This parts must be replaced to solved the convergence board problems.The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.

sounds like your green tube is set to high. take the front cover off and the plastic cover under that you will see a black box about 6x6 with 6 controls one is for focus the other is for intensity here a guide for sony but yours should be close.
