Amp was purchased about four and a half years ago and almost never used, and then for only a few minutes at a time (never stressed). Now that I'm using it more, after about 20 minutes, it pops and then cuts out, only to return a few seconds later, and then soon repeats the pop/cutout scenario. Symptoms occur with all types of guitars tried, so it's obviously the amp.
SOURCE: Popping sound when amp is on. A steady pop, pop, pop
You don't say WHICH lights dim with the popping. IF it is your lights in the house, IMMEDIATELY get an electrician to check your wiring as there is a loose connection or failure someplace in the sytem that would be a fire hazard.
IF the lights you are talking about are those on the amp, there is a power supply failure in the amp which is LIKELY a bad filter capacitor. Take in for repair or learn how to work on the eloectronics safely and do the repair yourself. The part is likely under $5,
SOURCE: my amp, was working fine last night, it wont turn
The unit will require repair and if you are not adept at electronics, you will need to take it to a shop. Likely there is failure in the power supply or amplifier that has blown the fuse. Replacing the fuse WITHOUT repairing the cause MAY do additional damage.
SOURCE: My Fender Hot Rod deluxe makes a popping noise when switching back to the clean channel.
This is because your clean channel only runs through the pre-amp section, requiring an increased volume level to match that of the volume of the drive section which is overdriven by the pre-amp circuit. my suggestion is to use lower volume level on the clean channel of the amp. To get any volume boost you may need to match the two channels you could use a signal/volume booster or overdrive pedal between your guitar and amp input, switching it off and back on when you switch back and forth between channels.
