I can't close program (task host exe) which is preventing me from logging out . Every time I try logging off I get message, I need to close program, which is preventing me from logging or to force log off. Then it says program that needs to close is task host, which is running a long running script. I also get message at other times when program is trying to recover web page, long running script is preventing program to respond, and then asks if I want to close it? I always confirm, but it always comes back. I have tried finding it to try and see what it does, if I need it, or I could close it. I have found it but don't understand the description of it, so afraid to close it The program is task host exe.

SOURCE: error message

The most common cause of this issue is not restarting the computer following the installation of Internet Explorer 7. It seems that if you do not restart Windows immediately after the installation has completed, it causes some side-effects, particularly the error you describe. This may not have been your fault, as the Internet Explorer 7 update may have been automatically downloaded and installed from the Windows Update website. After the update was installed, and you were prompted to restart, you might have elected not to restart (as you did not realise the implications of such) and thus now the program does not work correctly. In this case, the workaround for the issue is to uninstall Internet Explorer 7, through the “Add/Remove Programs” control panel, and then reinstall Internet Explorer 7. Make sure you restart the computer once the installation has completed!

Apart from reinstalling Internet Explorer 7 I was unable to find any other workarounds for the problem. Some users have reported having to reinstall Windows, but this is only in extreme cases. In the worst case, you may have to just uninstall Internet Explorer 7 and go back to using Internet Explorer 6. However, I imagine you might like the new Internet Explorer 7 features such as tabbed browsing. Should this be the case, and you are unable to resolve the problem with Internet Explorer 7, perhaps another alternative is to try Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox). This is a very popular free open-source web browser, with many of the same features (tabbed browsing, RSS integration, etc.). This could be a useful compromise if you are still unable to get Internet Explorer 7 to work correctly.

Hi Princess Tina,

It sounds like the registry keys needed to recognise and open msi files are missing or incorrect.
Paste the following into a new file (eg. with notepad) and save the file with a .reg extension. setupmsi.reg will do ok. Then double click on the saved reg file and add the keys to your registry. (The first line "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.0" must be the first line in the file).

I have a program(taskhost.exe) which I can't close, and is preventing me from logging off, or shut down my PC

Taskhost.exe is part of windows. killing shouldn't affect anything critical. It's function is to run script that need to run at certaint times. low priority stuff. Recomend you run antivirus and anti malware software. also run windows update. those 3 things tend to find the majority of issues. then open your control panel and look through the add programs section and see if anything has been installed that you don't want. Many time programs install other programs that will cause your computer to have issues.

I am getting error message for win32 generic host data executor prevention

Here is my resolution to the error
SVCHOST.EXE GENERIC HOST PROCESS OR
DEP ERROR

IT DOES NOT INCLUDE
DISABLING WIA
OR
DISABLING DEP (which is a good security feature)

I have tried it on upto 3-4 computers with success and complete software functionality
*******************************************
Turn the All in One Off
Uninstall the whole of the HP software on the computer
Run a level 4 uninstall
Start --> Run -->X:\Util\CCC\Uninstall L1.bat
Start --> Run -->X:\Util\CCC\Uninstall L2.bat
Start --> Run -->X:\Util\CCC\Uninstall L3.bat
Start --> Run -->X:\Util\CCC\Uninstall L4.bat

Restart the computer
*******************************************
Check the computer on the restart
Check if you still get an SVCHOST.EXE GENERIC HOST PROCESS OR
DEP ERROR on restart

Start --> Run
Type in Msconfig
Click OK
Click Launch System Restore
Run System Restore
Create a Restore Point named Hp

Click Start --> Run
Type in Regedit
Click OK
Open Registry Editor
Scroll to the following Registry Key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV
ersion\Explorer\
RemoteComputer\NameSpace\2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D

Right click on this Key Click Export
On the Export Registry Window which comes up
Type Hpprinter as the filename and save it on the desktop

Get back to the same Registry Key
Right Click the Key and Click Delete to remove the key

Restart the computer
THERE SHOULD BE NO DEP ERRORS THIS TIME

(IF you have any issues after deleting the above key <possibility is remote> restore the computer back to the Hp restore point)

*******************************************

Reinstall the Hp printer Wirelessly or on a wired network now the usual way

Once the software installation finishes
Verify functionality

*******************************************
NOW
Right-Click My Computer, then click Properties.

On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

On the Data Execution Prevention tab

Click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select to select the OptOut policy, and then click Add to add the following programs

Create an exception in the DEP for the following programs by browsing to the correct location. The following list outlines the locations:

Hpcmpmgr.exe (x:\Program Files\HP\Hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe)

HPwuSchd2.exe (x:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\hpwuSchd2.exe)

HP Digital Imaging Monitor (hpqtra08.exe) (x:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe)

HP Image Zone Fast Start (hpqthb08.exe) (x:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqthb08.exe)

Generic Host Process for Win32(svchost.exe)
(c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe)

Add all these files one by one by browsing to the locations

Click Apply and OK
Let the computer restart if prompted
******************************************

Its also at times needed to disable
from the Startup of the computer in Msconfig

Hpcmpmgr.exe
HPwuSchd2.exe
HP Digital Imaging Monitor (hpqtra08.exe)
HP Image Zone Fast Start (hpqthb08.exe)

The reason is the above mentioned exceptions to the Data Execution Prevention are loaded after the Startup loads and the DEP may try to shut them down at the startup itself and generate the errors
Unchecking the above files does not mean losing any functionality on the All in One all the features should work properly

I can't logon my toshiba portege m400 - s5032x a error message shows up saying Isass.exe application error the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on ok to terminate the...

Your system is infected by Sasser worm.The Sasser worm infects machines via network connections. It can attack entire networks of computers or one single computer connected to the Internet. The worm exploits a known windows vulnerability that is easily patched, however few systems seem to have this patch installed. It attacks Windows 2000 and Windows XP machines along with Windows NT and Windows Server 2003.

The patch from Microsoft known as the MS04-011 Security Update fixes the following vulnerabilities:
LSASS Vulnerability
LDAP Vulnerability
PCT Vulnerability
Winlogon Vulnerability
Metafile Vulnerability
Help and Support Center Vulnerability
Utility Manager Vulnerability
Windows Management Vulnerability
Local Descriptor Table Vulnerability
H.323 Vulnerability
Virtual DOS Machine Vulnerability
Negotiate SSP Vulnerability
SSL Vulnerability
ASN.1 “Double-Free” Vulnerability

Download the Windows patches for this vulnerability.Here is the link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-011.mspx

How Can I Remove the Sasser worm?

Follow these steps in removing the Sasser worm.

1) Disconnect your computer from the local area network or Internet

2) Terminate the running program
Open the Windows Task Manager by either pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, selecting the Processes tab or selecting Task Manager and then the process tab on WinNT/2000/XP machines.
Locate one of the following programs (depending on variation), click on it and End Task or End Process

avserve.exe
avserve2.exe
skynetave.exe
any process running with the "_up.exe" suffix
Close Task Manager

3) Activate the Windows XP Firewall (if running Windows XP) or another firewall to prevent the worm from shutting your system down while downloading the patches. To activate the Windows XP firewall, follow these steps.
Click on Start, Control Panel
Double-click on Networking and Internet Connections, then click on Network Connnections
Right-click on the connection you use to access the Internet and choose Properties
Click on the Advanced Tab and check the box
"Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet"
Click OK and close out of the Network and Control Panel

4) Remove the Registry entries
Click on Start, Run, Regedit
In the left panel go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Run
In the right panel, right-click and delete the following entry

"avserve.exe"="%Windir%\avserve.exe"
"avserve2.exe"="%Windir%\avserve2.exe"
"skynetave.exe"= "%Windows%\skynetave.exe"
Close the Registry Editor

5) Delete the infected files (for Windows ME and XP remember to turn off System Restore before searching for and deleting these files to remove infected backed up files as well)
Click Start, point to Find or Search, and then click Files or Folders.
Make sure that "Look in" is set to (C:\WINDOWS).
In the "Named" or "Search for..." box, type, or copy and paste, the file names:

avserve.exe
avserve2.exe
skynetave.exe
C:\win2.log
Click Find Now or Search Now.
Delete the displayed files.
Empty the Recycle bin

6) Reboot the computer and update your antivirus software, and run a thorough virus scan using your favorite antivirus program.

For Automatic Removal of Sasser, download the Symantec removal tool, you'll still need to download the patches above and install them, however this removal tool will stop the Sasser worm from running, remove the items in the registry, and delete the infected files.

in general answer --
open task manager (pressing CTRL,ALT, DEL keys) this will bring up Windows Task Manger, click on Application, highlight any task that is Not Responding and click on End Task.

Also, to make your CPU boot up faster, I would
click on Start
click on Run
type msconfig.exe (this will open System Configuration Utility box)
click on the Start Up Tab
(you will see several boxes checked under Startup Item). And look for programs that you don't want to launch every single time you log on. (such as Realpayer, yahooMessegner, realsched, etc).
Uncheck the boxes and this will require a reboot. Your computer will bootup a lot faster. These programs you can always open when you want. You can always tell if you have a lot of programs that startup when you turn on your cpu and in the righthand corner, where the time time is at, you see a lot of icons.

Also if you can always open up task manager again, click on Processes, find explorer.exe and kill that process, this closes everything on your screen. dont worry...
then in task manager
click on FIle
New Task Run
and type explorer.exe and click OK
and you will see all your icons pop back up on the screen.

Post reply....

Blank screen, can only start programms by task manager

Try to boot Vista into Safe Mode. Tap the F8 Key right after you turn on the computer until you get the Advanced Boot Up Menu
and use the keyboard arrow keys to select Safe Mode. The next screen may ask you to select your operating systm. Select Vista, not the Recovery Console.

Does your task bar and icons appear in safe mode? If so, it might be one of your start up programs that is failing and causing explorer.exe to fail during normal boot-up into Windows and not allowing your taskbar and icons to appear. Click Start and type in msconfig and hit enter then click the Start Up tab and look at all the programs that start up when Vista is starting up. Do Not uncheck anything in the list that you do not recognize as you may uncheck drivers or Vista starting programs that you computer needs to start up Vista properly. Google anything you don't recognize and uncheck any Start Up programs you do not need to start when Vista boots up, like Quicktime player or Adobe Reader for example. (This would also help your boot up time into Vista)

Sounds like explorer.exe crashed. Try opening up the Task Manager again, and Click File > New Task and type in explorer.exe. See if the task bar and your desktop icons appear.

If they appear for a brief moment then disappear again, the Windows explorer.exe is corrupted. Explorer.exe will try to start and then fail again. You may need to use System Restore to bring your computer back to a date and time when the computer was working properly, before the Vista update.

MySQL can't connect Error

Guess you are referring to this error message -

Check your username & password, and make sure that you are authorized to access the server.

If your password & username are correct, there might be a network problem that prevents you from connecting to the machine where the MySQL server is running. To make sure that they are no network failures, click on the "ping" button.

This will "Ping" the MySQL server host. If the host is available (no network failure), you will

receive a message similar to this -

Reply from 127.0.0.1: Time=1ms TTL=128

If you don't it means there's a problem with the network.
