I was told by a previous repair man that there is a fuse in the beater bar that needed to be replaced.

Up to my experience in my Panasonic vacuum cleaner, if the beater bar is not working this could be because the 'Carpet/Floor' selector switch is in the 'OFF' or 'FLOOR' position. In both of these positions the beater bar will not rotate. Move the selector switch to the 'CARPET' position. When in this position the beater bar will rotate once the foot pedal is pressed.

If the selector switch is in the 'CARPET' position and the beater bar is still not rotating it could be that there is something entangled in the beater bar, or the belt is worn or broken.

To check this first unplug the vacuum cleaner

Inspect the beater bar and belts to ensure that there is nothing entangled in the beater bar and that the belts are intact and are not excessively worn. If the belts are excessively worn they may slip resulting in the beater bar not rotating.

The vacuum cleaners often have an overload protection system inside the nozzle, which stops the nozzle motor when the beater bar jams to prevent belt breakage. After clearing any lint build up or jamming you may need to reset the overload protection, by pressing the reset button on the top of the floor nozzle.

The brush on my Electrolux Versatility will not spin. You can spin it by hand, but the motor will not spin it.

Hello, W/D here.
Since the brush will not spin, but the motor works, either the belt has come off of the motor shaft, the belt is worn past it's useful life, or the beater bar has seized.
1. Turn off the power (unplug).
2. Remove the bottom plate. With the plate off, use your finger to test the tension of the belt. It should be tight, and roll when you roll the beater bar by hand.
3. Remove the beater bar and belt. Inspect the beater bar, particularly by the bearings. Remove any twine, hair, etc.
4. Inspect the belt for abnormal wear. If there is any significant wear in the belt, replace it.
5. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Place the belt on the beater bar. While holding the beater bar close to it's position, place the belt on the motor shaft. Rotate the beater bar bearings to their proper position and install the beater bar. Replace the cover plate.

Best regards, --W/D--

Hello. i only have one arm and am trying to figure out why my beater bar wont turn on my dyson dc14. the belt smells a little too. thanx, trixie

Sounds like the beater bar is frozen in place. This sometimes happens when the ends of the bar become stuck in the holders. The solution is to remove the beater bar and clean the small holders on each end removing any debris that has built up. Spray with a little WD40 and then manually rotate the beater brush around the holders until it is free, then replace. Be sure the belt is installed properly.

Beater bar will not turn

Something probably got caught in the beater bar whilst you were vacuuming, that'll cause it to stop itself so that it doesn't cause any further damage, solution:
- make sure the beater bar is clear of obstructions
- step on the red pedal on the back and recline the handle
- turn the machine on with the red power button
- press the gray button next to the red power button, this is the beater bar's ON/OFF button
- if it still doesn't turn, press and hold the gray button down for 10 seconds
- if after this it still doesn't turn, inspect the beater bar again and make sure there are no obstructions and if there aren't, call the Dyson Helpline, they will set you up with a repair with the closest authorized repair dealer in your area

Beater bar will not turn

if the beater bar wont turn on when you switch it from floors to carpets ( the knob near the bottom of the machine, and on the right side of it when your facing the machine ) then its probably the clutch mechanism that drives the belt, you will need to take it to a vac shop to have it fixed.
