I have the SCHC micro with the adapter that won't read
The Kingston Website sends you to the Microsoft website for a hot fix. It won't install because I am running a later SP (SP3) so it just stops the installation. So far I haven't found a solution.

Found a strange symptom on a MSI netbook with Windows 7 Starter OS; it would take a long time to boot up. After the initial Windows splash display, the screen would go blank, and take several minutes to come back to the logon screen.
After many trials with reloading the whole drive, checking disks, finally isolated it to the presence of the Kingston micro SD adapter, but without a micro SD card in the adapter.
Without a flash card in the adapter, it apparently tries to access it regardless, and hangs things up for a long time. Removed the adapter, and it booted and shut down almost instantly in comparison.
The adapter is not a simple pass through of the micro SD card, so if there is no flash card installed, leave it unplugged, or it may slow things down considerably.
Didn't find anything on a search related to this symptom and problem, so I thought I'd note it just in case anyone else runs into this situation, maybe save them some time troubleshooting...
Have you checked the drivers for the usb adapter. plug it in and go to my devises and up date driver see if that fixed it. vista software may have a problem as they are not updating there software files. but win7 is fine has same filing as xp.
You should have 2 components with your micro SD card. The card, a small adaptor and a large adaptor. All you need to do is see what size adaptor your read needs. You place the card in the tiny slot in the adaptor and slide it in the reader. The computer will find the micro SD and install the driver to read it. Then it will give you an option to open the files. That is how 99% of them work.
The Micro adapter has no memory in it. It is just an adapter to use so you can plug your Micro SD memory card into a larger (SD) slot. The SD Micro memory card needs to be inserted into the adapter.
The Card Reader you are using is probably not compatible with SDHC Memory Cards (High Capacity SD). You may need to get an SCHC compatible reader or check the website for your product to see if the is a driver update. You can get a new reader for about $20 bones if needed. I had the same issue.
