SOURCE: I need to deregister missing handset #1

To de-register HANDSET #1:

1) Grab any working handset which is registered to your base (so HANDSET #2 or #3 in your case)

2) Press and hold the "END" + "#" key for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)

3) Choose the "Deregister HS" menu option

4) Pick HANDSET #1 as the handset ot de-register (since that's the "phantom" registered handset)

5) Once de-registered, you can de-register handsets #2 and #3 directly from each handset's "normal" menu interface (i.e. press "Menu", choose "Deregistration")

6) Thereafter, if you re-register your handset, they should start at HANDSET #1, then #2, and so on.

How do i deregister an orphaned AT&T TL92273 handset?

  • Press and hold handset locator on base station until 'in use' light comes on.
  • Press # on the handset and the phone registers itself to the base station.
I repeated the above procedure with my two remaining handsets and now I have a 6 handset cordless system for my home.
It's important to note that if you have a working base station you should use the standard instructions for deregistering the handsets. Each handset gets allocated a handset number by the base station, if you deregister using the special code detailed in this post then the reserved handset number on the base station is consumed and cannot be reclaimed; thus reducing the number of handsets the base station can support by 1. The special code is only for use when you have a handset that is orphaned from a lost or non-working base station. www.apparelstore38.com

Why does screen indicate "searching"?

The handset cannot communicate with its base.

When the handset cannot establish its secure (encrypted) radio
link with the base it is 'paired with' or 'registered' to, it will first
say "Connecting....", then it will display "Out of Range or No
Power at Base", then it settles at the infamous "Searching..."
display.

Although rare, the registration between base and handset can
become corrupted and lost so that we must de-register and
then re-register the pair.

First, ensure that power is 'on' at the base (a more common cause)
and the cradle will charge the handset, etc.

Second, be sure the handset battery is well charged as a weak battery will interfere with the registration process.

Then try the following ( 'works for the D1680, D1481, and similar):

To deregister the handset:

1. Press and hold the [END] and [ # ] keys at the same time,
after a few seconds the display will say
"System Reset, Deregister Handset"
press [SELECT]
scroll to "Base Unavailable"
press [SELECT] (chirps) press [END]
display reads "Place in base..."

Next, to re-register the handset:

2. Set the handset into the base cradle and wait,
after ~30 seconds the handset should display
"Handset #" and be good to go...
or it will display "Registration Failed"

Good luck!

My headset is broken and I want to deregister it

Since you declined to specify the model of your VTech DECT 6.0 cordless phone the best I can do is to suggest you enter it into the search box here to download a copy of the manual. The manual will give you instructions for deregistering a handset.

I bought 2 sets of the uniden DECT 1480-3. I want 6 handsets to work with one base. How do I add 3 handsets to a base that already has 3 handsets?

Jill,
The only logical way is to get the additional handsets to communicate with the base. And to do that you must set them to the frequency of the base. You Use guide will tell you how to set the frequency n the handsets to talk to the base. They way you set the original ones.
BUT, I doubt if this will work. Why? Because if that was the case if you and I had the same company phones, then I would stand outside your home and set the same frequency on my handset and misuse your phone. A great security risk in today's world. But there is no harm trying it out. Just set the same frequency on the additional ones as the base. If it works, then you will have that many more intercoms too. And do let me know if it works.

Deregister lost or broken phones

Some tricks from a helpful Uniden rep:

holding down end+# keys at the same time on the phone for about 10 secs (you will hear a beep) will deregister the handset. If you have a dead handset and want to deregister it from the base, you have to reset the base. unplug the phoneline and power. hold down the "delete message" key, plug power back in. about 10 secs later, you will hear a long beep (theres a short beep upon powerup as well). At this point all handsets are deregistred and you will have to reregister them with the end+# trick. this way when #1 handset is dead, you can make a working one #1 and get the broken one fixed emotion-1.gif

BTW, this is a woot warranty, not uniden warranty. however the uniden rep gave me the number to the people who refurb (rox0rz!) these. I'll post an update when I finally get ahold of them (and the number if its actually helpful)
