You may want to open the laptop and check for damage to the touch pad including connection to the mother board. If you can not see any visible damage to pad or connection replace with another pad. Good Luck

SOURCE: touch pad

You probably fried something with the coffee.  There are replacement touchpads available if you know how to replace them if not an authorized dealer will be able to point you in the right direction.

If a tech opened it up and cleaned it, then you should be ok. If it was not cleaned, you run the chance of oxidation, which will cause corrosion on the metal contacts.
Was the coffee black, no sugar or cream?
And is also depends if there was sugar in your coffee. If it was plain black coffee, then you should be ok.

Spilled coffee on my touch pad and want to clean it. how do i take the case off to do so?

If you want to clean that touchpad, you have to dis-assemble your laptop which is very critical and you might damage the other parts or connectors. Ask for technical assistance near you.

I spilled coffee on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, so now the touch pad doesn't work. How can I take the touch pad out & clean it or replace it.

You might be able to find a cheap replacement palm rest (which includes the touch pad) on E-Bay or similar site. Just search your model number.

As far as replacing it yourself, I recommend having someone that works on computers regularly doing it, unless you are completely comfortable working inside the laptop. If you are (and you take all necessary precautions), here is the Service Manual from Dell which includes disassembly instructions for the palm rest.

Need to restart Logitech external keyboard after spilling coffee

If no operation after a few days the liquid did permanent damage to keyboard. Not uncommon.
