Maxtor personal storage 3200 problem!!!

I just got the maxtor external hard drive and as soon as i hooked it up it worked fine, the computer recognized the harddrive so i transfered all my files onto the drive, than the next day i turned it on, and noticed that the computer did not show up on "my computer".... So i thought maybe if i install the software it will show....but after installing..no luck i changed the usb port to see and still the problem reoccured to make sure i hooked it up on another computer it didn't recognize... When I first installed the Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 it worked fine but now when I plug it back into the USB port, it wont work or show up anymore. Please help!?!

First, try another USB Cable. If that does not work properly then I would suspect the box or the drive has failed. If you just bought it, return it to the store and complain. They may replace it. As for your data?

Now if you want to become techie you can remove the hard drive from the box and attach it to you computer either copy the files back if you do not have them on your computer or format the drive if you have your files. Then put the drive back in the box and try to get a refund or buy a different external. I like a metal box with an AC cord plug. Best of luck.

Maxtor 3200

Seagate troubleshooting Error Code 10, states that drive has failed. (Seagate bought out Maxtor)

Before you resign yourself to everything is lost on this harddrive, how about trying one more thing?

How about putting the harddrive inside in a new external enclosure, and see if it works? I suggest that perhaps the external enclosure it's in, is bad.
The harddrive inside is a 3.5 inch harddrive. Same width as used by a desktop computer. It is a Sata harddrive.

Here's an example of a 3.5 inch Sata, external enclosure,
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3901268&CatId=2780
Just pop the external enclosure open that holds it now, take it out, and install it into an external enclosure like the example above. Plug in the USB cable.

Don't know if this applies to your particular Maxtor Personal Storage 3200, but when I went to search for the type of harddrive it uses just now, I ran into thsi, and thought I would pass it along. http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/personal_storage/ps3200-sw)

I can't transfer anything and I get error 0x80070571

Get all your data off of the drive and then try to format it. If you still have errors, the drive is more than likely failing

Maxtor and vista

Try some other USB device (memory-stick, printer, camera) in the USB slot in the Vista computer, just to "prove" that Vista will recognize _any_ USB device connected to that slot.

Maxtor personal storage 3200 problem!!!

I will tell you how to solve it, but this will void your warranty!
I had the same problem. What i was intended to open the box take the HD and use it as an internal HD.
When I opened the box I saw the HD jumpers were set on Cable Select I picked the jumper and plugged it to Master. Plugged it back to AC power and USB. It works. I donno why but it just worked.
Good Luck!
