1. First you must set password to access the web interface, so that only you can change the setting.
For a linksys the default web-interface is at 192.168.1.1 The first term you access it enter username:admin, password admin. If that does not work read the manual to find that out.
2. Explore the TAB and each sub-menu to familiarize yourself with the interface. For change to Take effect you must SAVE. Button is at the bottom.
3. In the TAB SETUP>Basic Setup Activate the Automatic DHCP reservation of IP addresses. Enable it on the same page
4.Under the ADMINISTRATION TAB >Management enter a new router password.
5. Under the Wireless TAB> Security Menu, select the Security Mode as WPA2Personal, and Encyiption AES. Enter a passphrase ( like a password but can be a phrase -part of a sentence. For key renewal enter a number like 3600 seconds.
Save all.
Now if you connect a device through the wireless you will be prompted to enter the pass-phrase. You will be asked for it after every power down of router or reboot of router. If you reset the configuration by pressing the reset button on the router you must redo everything again.
Remember: You will erase everything every time you reset the router. So if you make mistakes, just reset it with a straightened paper clip.
Remember, any body who has physical access to the router can reset. If tech savvy, he/she can give him/her/self access.

And the typical setup for the westell 6100 that centurytel uses:

Centurytel will provide you with your username and password.

PPPoE Configuration:
VPI 8
VCI 35
Protocol: PPPoE

Hope this helps.

red light on DSL implies no ADSL communication to ISP. Check your phone line connection and make sure there are filters on all the other phone equipment in the home

SOURCE: can"t get on the internet using 5100 speedstream modem my

in your browser type 192.16.0.1 and it will take you to the modem admin page.

Press the check connection button and it will tell you how your connections are doing. If it shows DSL/Internet down, then most likely your ISP is down 95% likely), or your modem is bad (happens pretty often with these things)

If it doesn't take you to the page, try using 10.0.0.1
some of the newer 5100s have that as their address. Same options and advice.

How do I configure for wireless?

Siemens Speedstream 4100 is just a modem, if you want to connect to the internet wireless you will need to set up your speedstream modem with a wireless router.
It can work with almost all the wireless routers available in the market, but I would recommend a Linksys wireless router.

Trying to hook-up a wirless router (Linksys WRT54G) to a SpeedStream 5100 for PS3 gaming on-line.

Before we configure router with PS3, we need first to make sure router is already configure to work with DSL modem. In Setting-Up a Linksys Router Using DSL Internet Service just click this link for reference.

I can't get my wireless g broadband router to work with my dsl speedstream 5100 modem i can connect to internet when my ethernet cable goes from my xp pc or my mac osx desktop directly to the dsl...

make sure that there is no IP conflict with the two devices. speedstream and wireless G. if both of them have same IP gateway you have to change the IP either one of them for you to have a connection.

Router to connect or sub the speedstream 5100

Option 1 (easy)
you could buy a switch or router and put in line with your modem.
you will have to set up appropriate networking on the xbox
DSL --> MODEM --> SWITCH <-- PC
^---- XBOX

Option 2 (harder)
you could get a wired/wireless AP (Access Point) for your PC and run ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) through Windows. connect the XBOX through your PC
