The reason why your player still plays subtitles even after you choose "no subtitles" is that the subtitle is hardcode subtitle. It is merged with your video file and it will always appear no matter you want it or not. The only solution to your problem is to use some player with subtitle controller and then play video with no hardcode subtitle. Here is the guide FYI.

Sometimes, subtitles are recorded with the movie itself.

Home theater is not reading MP4 Files . how to resolve this issues

For every format (MP4 is not one, but dozens of formats and no standard) you need a player, or on a computer a setting in a program. A DVD player, only can play one format, a DVD format. Actually it is even a coded format. When you have a MP4 file, you should encode it to to the DVD format and then but it to a DVD, before you try to play it in a DVD player. Try reading some articles about video formats on Wikipedia, when it is interesting enough for you to understand different Video (and Audio) formats.

Subtitles always on

Hi - welcome to FixYa,

There are 2 methods for changing the subtitle settings on your DVD player.

Method 1.
To turn off the subtitles on your DVD player during playback:

1. Press the "SUBTITLE" button on your remote control
The subtitle button is just below the "0" (zero) numerical key on the remote control. It is marked "SUBTITLE" above the button and the button has "ABC" written inside a white rectangle on it.
2. Use the left "<" and right ">" arrow keys to change the subtitle setting
Each time you press an arrow key the subtitle language will change and eventually the language will read "OFF". The subtitles are now switched off during playback.

Method 2.
To turn disc subtitles off from the main menu:

1. Press the "MENU/LIST" button on your remote control (directly below "STOP")
The main menu will now appear
2. Press the down arrow key on your remote once to highlight "A" in the left hand column of the main menu
3. Press the right arrow key on your remote once to move to the right-hand column of the menu
4. Press the down arrow twice to highlight "Disc Subtitle"
5. Use the left and right arrow keys to change the subtitle options until your required choice is displayed
6. Once set, press the "MENU/LIST" button again to exit the menu.

This should solve your problem, but if you need any further assistance, please post back.

Regards,
BElectric

How to play subtitle in the movie?

Try playing your movies with VLC Media Player, which can be found here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It's 100% free and can play all types of codecs.
You can just drag and drop your subtitles over the movie once it's started.
What is the player you are using now?

DVD player cannot read DVD disc.

Have you tried other DVD's in this unit and they work? If so it might be just an incompatibility issue with that DVD in your TV.
