I have power to my ML 691H Hi Fi sound monitor but no sound

If the computer and the powered speakers are connected to different power outlets then you could have an earth loop. This causes a hum in the speakers, this also apply to hi-fi sound systems.

First Things first:
1) Simple, good sound of your speakers, need a good cable, (gold ) or ( copper)
for now, you should go to Radio Shack and buy a specific cable for this Monitor and for your X-Fi sound card. remember, the quality on cables!!!
for this, you need to go with your monitor manual. They may know the specific cable you need.

Download the status monitor for the ML-1710 and when you switch on the machine the monitor should help to give you an indication of what the error is. Post that info back here for further help.
