My Odometer is not working on my 96 Ford Explorer. Speedometer works fine, Tachometer registers periodically. Miles do not register on the odometer or trip line.

If I had a 1998 car with 218K miles on it and an unimportant thing like the trip meter didn't work I would put a piece of black tape over it and use a GPS as my trip meter.
are you saying that the odometer does not roll over the miles and that the speed of water does register the current speed? Usually if the odometer is not working it is a problem inside the speedometer unit in the dash.If neither is working then you may have a broken connection to the unit on the transmission that sends electrical information to the speedometer.I hope this helpsregards
My van did the same thing. Actually the gauge had spun all the way around to the back side of the little peg that the needle rest on. To fix it I took the face of the dach board apart with a screw driver and rotated the needle by hand back to zero and its worked fine ever since..
My nephew has a 96 taurus also when his radio went out he noticed that his speedometer was not working as well so we check the fuses under the dashboard and found that a fuse from the radio memory was blown . We replaced it and the radio and speedometer and the odometer worked fine
Check the speed sensor in the transmission.
Being a 95 it might still be cable driven. Disconnect the cable from the transmission and hook a drill to it. Spin it and see if it registers. If it does, the gear going into the tranny is broken, if it doesn't the cable is probably broken.
