Error message "push the reset switch"

Pull the battery out to reset it. Get a DV tape cleaner to clean out the tape deck.

That should solve both.

My computer is about seven years old so I can't really upgrade to a newer OS. I am still using Ubuntu 8.04. Anyways. The problem that I have is earlier my computer screen turned black. So I rebooted...

My computer is an old Compaq Evo. It's around the same age. And I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 just fine. I upgraded from 8.04, to 10, now to 11.04
I have to say 11.04 has amazing drivers, everything seems to work 100% of the time with it now. And it supports more PNP (Plug-n-play) devices
Best part about Ubuntu is, you can upgrade, and down grade based on your likes or dislikes.

Dvr2000

if its not a logic board issue, then its a read head issue. i would try everything else first, and then take the outer case off and physically clean the laser emitter / read head, and look for debris in the track the read head follows from center to edge of the disc.
if anyone else has a better suggestion that is not as invasive, try it first.
good luck
