Boot from usb on inspiron 8100?

Check that the diodes on the moterboard are still intact, look for "ripped" solder connections on the board. If there are missing diodes, Just bridge the gap with a bit of solder

Can u add a floppy drive to an emachines?

according to this, the motherboard is an ECS MCP61SM-GM

it says it has a floppy header onboard for adding a regular 3.5" floppy drive.

you can also find usb floppy drives that you can attach and use when you need without opening the machine.
