CIL on, code P0441, using more gas, hard to fill up

Started with problem filling up gas tank and bad gas millege. than CIL came on. took it to dealer, they said need to replace carbon canister and purge valve. they asked too much money so i bought canister with purge valve and filter from junk yard. my old canister turn out to be a few pounds havier so i replaced a whole thing along with houses. after instalation i disconected battery and CIL went away. fill up gas with no problem. after about 10 miles CIL came back on again. i checked code and shows P0441 i also think car still uses too much gas. people wright different stuff some say valve should be open with no voltage applied, some say valve should be closed, so what is it? i hooked up my old valve to battery and solenoid click closed, disconnect clicks open. is it how it supposed to be? what makes valve closed and when? how do i check if power gets to solinoid? is there any other places i should be looking in? please help! looks like a lot of people have same problem. solution would help many. thanks.

Same thing-after I replaced the strap holding the canister in place-it rusted off. Mine is a 2002, though.

In the first place, P0441 = Evap. Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow. The 'CANISTER CLOSE VALVE' you mention is normally OPEN until the ECU (Engine Control Module) decides to check the fuel system for any leakage - IT closes the valve and then applies a vacuum to the system and monitors it for leakage. This valve (CCV), if sticking CLOSED, only MIGHT set P0441. The most suspect component is the Purge Control Solenoid Valve (located on/near the engine) and is also controlled by the ECU. If this valve is malfunctioning, it can absolutely cause this P0441 to SET!... There is also another component which can CAUSE this code to SET... it's the Differential Pressure Sensor (DPS) or Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor (FTPS) connected to the Evaporative Emissions System. It is this component which monitors 'vacuum' pressure on the system to determine if there is any leakage.. its signal is also used by the ECU to monitor 'purge' of the charcoal canister under normal driving conditions. There is yet another component which can cause the ECU to set P0441.. and that is a restriction in the 'purge' circuit.. clogged charcoal canister, air filter, or a kink in the Evap hose(s).

P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow

For a while. But eventually the carbon canister will fill with gas vapor and you'll start having trouble refilling your tank with gas. Nozzle will shut off every few seconds. This is usually caused by a bad purge valve or plugged vent valve or line.

2005 Kia Optima w/ Trouble code PO441; stalls after filling up with gas - how do I fix it?

Here's a link for p0441 (not po441) http://www.obd-codes.com/p0441
P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow.
Since it happens when it fills up, you'd have to look at what happens with a almost full tank (you stop about a gallon before full), vs a full (gasp pump stopped when full) tanks. Something might be happening when gas gets to far up the filling tube. Maybe there is a vent line with a valve that's getting gas in there causing the fault. I'm not a kia expert, but If stopping the gas pump yourself fixes the problem, then stop "topping off"

Po441 2002 Hyundai, engine hard starting after fill up

Most likely is a bad EVAP purge valve. But check below list.
This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer functioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle'sicon1.png fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

EVAP emission canister purge is controlled by a valve which allows engine vacuum to pull stored fuel vapors from fuel tank into the engine to be burned, rather than be vented to atmosphere. A vacuum switch is used to detect when flow exists. If the PCM commands purge and sees that the switch is closed (indicating no detected purge flow) P0441 is set.

Likely, no symptoms will be discernible to the driver, other than the illuminated Check Engine Light.
Causes

A code P0441 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

  • Bad vacuum switch
  • Broken or damaged EVAP line or canister
  • Open in PCM purge command circuit
  • Open or short in Voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
  • Faulty purge solenoid
  • Restriction in EVAP solenoid, line or canister
  • Corrosion or resistance in purge connector
  • Bad PCM
Possible Solutions

With a P0441 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:

  • Replace Leak Detection Pump / LDP
  • Repair damaged EVAP lines or canister
  • Repair open or short in voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
  • Repair open in PCM purge command circuit
  • Replace purge Solenoid
  • Replace vacuum switch
  • Repair restriction in Evap line or canister or solenoid
  • Repair resistance in purge connector
  • Replace PCM

I have a hard time starting my 04 Santa Fe after i fill up

it was running then you removed the gas cap to fill ( extremely dangerous practice with car running)
that indicates that there is a problem with the EVAP system.
run the fault codes ( what the dealers should have done first ) and check for the EVAP codes , purge vent or solenoid problems

I have a hard time starting my 04 Santa Fe after i fill up

The most common cause of this is thermal shock (gasoline is very cold out of the ground) to the electric fuel pump inside the fuel tank, when the pumps get worn the decrease in temperature from the gasoline causes the pump to stick. This is a question I see fairly often, so I did research to see what the common cause is. Next time this happens have the fuel pressure checked.

Try checking the vent tube. if you look under the truck it will go from the gas tank filler tube to the top of the gas tank.

2006 scion TC Hard starting

Does it start if you give it gas when turning the key? I had a grand prix that would not want to start unless I gave it gas. It was an easy fix. I changed the air filter, used MAF cleaner to clean the MAF and I also took the throttle body apart and cleaned that. The throttle body had a black build up in it that I cleaned up with throttle body cleaner.
