This model laptop will not allow you to add a video card to it. The video card and all of its components are part of the Laptop motherboard already.
You can, however upgrade your memory from the 1GB up to a total of 2GB, but your current configuration is 2x512mb chips.
So right now you have 2 memory slots available but they are being used by the 2 512mb chips. You will have to remove them and replace them with 2 1gb chips. This can be fairly pricey.

Do a search on this website for nc8230 manual. I just did and found the
complete manual loaded with hyperlinks. Follow the step by step
instructions and you will find the process relatively straight forward.
Essentially what you need to do is loosen a couple of screws in the
back, remove the keyboard then remove a plate underneath which will
expose the ram module.
Make sure you read the manual though.
Cheers
SOURCE: laptop upgrade
Hi there i worked for hp for a few years im pretty sure you cant upgrade the graphics but ram is no probs you need to know what type of ram is currently installed ie.ddr1 or 2 i dont think that unit has sdr ram on board hope this is a help to you
SOURCE: adding an additional memory module to laptop...wont start!!!
The problem is that your laptop only supports 2 GB of RAM. If there is not a newer bios allowing more then 2 GB is the max you can go. Since you put the 2 GB in one slot then the other slot will be useless. It wouldn't matter how much you put in the 2nd slot because the bios already says you have 2 GB on board and will not accept anymore. Sorry.
