This is most likely a defective zoom rocker switch assembly and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Hi, Sounds like there's a loose connection causing the shutter button not to work. It can be repaired but only by a professional. There's a good chance you still have warranty through Nikon on the camera so I'd suggest talking to them to find out where exactly to take the camera.

Simple solution with less cost is please use the external USB mouse.(Small size also avaible in market.) You are not mentioned the location where you are, Please locate the nearest Laptop service center for repair/replacement.
Try once with installing the Touch pad drivers.. .

I have a similar issue with this machine. For your problem, try this...Press and hold the STOP button for three seconds. This is intended to turn off the "Child Lock Out" function. On the other hand, you may find that buttons that do not work today will be fine in a few hours and different buttons will not work. It seems that every time I press a button, it's "pot-luck" if it will work or not.
The only way to repair it is mail it to California at your own expense and include a check for $15.00 for handeling. Target won't help and if you bought the extended plan it only kicks in after the emerson waranty runs out. If you buy this machine, buy another brand as well so you have one that works while this one is out being repaired.
