My dell 610 won't start

An old Dell 610 maybe upgraded to Windows 7 but not Windows 8.
To check if your laptop can support Windows then run this program.

1. • 1 Download the missing comctl32.dll file. Locate a website that offers the comctl32.dll file. You can also use the link in the Resources section.
     
   • 2 Unzip the download file if it is a .zip-type file. Right-click on the file and choose "extract" to make the file available in a .dll format.
     
   • 3 Install the missing comctl32.dll file in the proper folder on the computer. If the operating system is 64-bit Windows, copy comctl32.dll to the "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" folder. If the operating system is 32-bit Windows, copy comctl32.dll to the "C:\Windows\System32" folder.
     
   • 4 Restart the computer by clicking on the "Start" button and selecting the "Restart Computer" option.
     
   • 5 Open the computer program that previously displayed the error message stating that the file comctl32.dll was missing. This will verify the program now works properly.
     

That means you don't have the necessary permissions to execute the file. If you are an Administrator on the system, Windows Vista and Windows 7 have the UAC (User Access Control) on. So what you need to do is right click on the installer and click on "Run as Administrator".

are we talking windows password or start up password?

if you are experiencing these and unsure on what to do, better take your laptop a laptop tech, if you feel that you needed a hard drive change, then take it to a tech, have them replace your old hard drive

I am thinking that either spyware or a virus might have currupted one your booting files. You need to run anti spyware software and/or antivirus software. Try Windows live one care software this have a 90 free trial version, run it in safe mode and see what happends.

HI there, Try this... Start, settings, Control panel, system, hardware tab, windows update, enable search for drivers on windowsupdate, device manager, right click on the network controller and update. hope this helps good luck!

did you format it under windows explorer? O_o, yup you probably did ^^

anyway, just pullout that driver cd that came with the player, install the recovery software from there, run it and it will get fixed
