I'd like to buy a front load washer as my Sears portable died after 14 years! Unfortunately most of them are 27" in depth which won't work for my space. I have search "compact front load washers" and seem to come up with Whirlpool LHW005P (2.9 cu. ft, 24" depth), Whirlpool MAH2400 (2.3 cu.ft, 24" d); and Maytag Neptune MAH 2400AWW which appears to be essentially the MAH2400 in Whirlpool.
Since Maytag was sued for its mold problems in 2006 (?), I'm concerned about both reliability and performance in these models. What would you recommend? I could always buy a top loader but would prefer to go greener, and I'm single so I don't need a huge washer.
All top loaders have different water level selections mr or ms Gore. I would stay away from any of them with digital readouts and neptunes. Look for the models you want and the problems they have on this site. A washboard and a clothes line or rack are the greenest way to go , remember no phosphates in the water to clean clothes.
As long as i've been working on front load washers, I don't think any of the will get away from a mold problem. they all have a tendancy to hold some water in the door gasket and some of the lower insides. Most all of the front loads now reccomend that you do a cleaning with bleach and vinegar.
relibility in the front loads don't seem to bad, however it always cost more to repair a front load than a top load. parts are more and labor is more difficult to repair. Hope this helps some. If so , please rate my answer. good luck with a new washer.
