Screen display blacked out though all funtional icons are visible

The display screen has blacked out completely and photos clicked are also turning out to be a blank (black) screen. All functional icons are visible on the screen.
Is it a technical fault in the camera (malfuntion) or has some setting gone wrong?

Screen display has blacked out but all icons are functional. It now wont let me take a picture. It acts like the lens cap is on or somthing. Did I push a button I shouldnt have or is there a malfunction?

  • Anonymous Apr 26, 2009

Everything is functional but it won't let you use the viewfinder or the lcd display to take pictures. It acts as if the lens cap in on.

I have a similar problem with my Canon S3 IS. Dark/black LCD inShooting mode. However, I can view my existing photos in Display mode.I was about to spend money to get a Panasonic TZ5. Somehow I bumpedinto a solution post for S2 IS. Here is the link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/t1090569-black_screen

I tried their solutions twice and it WORKS. My S3 is working fine now.

My display screen is showing pixelated noise, or completely black. When it does display, all I get are off colour, horizontal dancing lines.

Camera is defect for sure, but don't tell anyone in the service centre, because they warn you not to take a camera out in extreme cold. You should not se the camera in environments below zero degrees
I'm afraid you can't fix it yourself, and before bringing it to a Canon Certified repair centre, ask them what it could cost.

Screen goes black unless it's on charge, even though it's fully charged

Right click on the battery icon in the taskbar (Normally located near the clock, bottom right corner of the screen).

In the sub-menu that pops up, select "Power Options".

Next to the power plan you are running, to the right of it, click on "Change plan settings".

Scroll down to and click on "Display" and you will see the computers setting options for both "On battery" and "Plugged in" with the screen turn off time in drop down boxes.

You need to select what time the screen turns off in when no user input is detected for that time. I usually select 5 mins for battery.

Hope this helps, and wishing you a Merry Christmas. ;)

Hi, I have a Canon IXUS 95IS camera.. For some reason, when I attempt to take a photo, the LCD screen isn't displaying what is actually in view? In movie mode it comes up on the screen but when i flick it...

Ah yes! you have pressed the display button. Turn the camera on and you see the icons in the display, look for the Disp button and press it, the display will cycle through its modes icons, black, image and icons.

When the picture does not display - do you see the normal text and icons that you would expect to see? Or, is the screen completely blank?

LCD won't project

You may have a problem with the image sensor device (CCD). From October 3, 2005 through October 2, 2007, Sony will repair, free of charge, affected products exhibiting the above-mentioned problem where it is caused by the image sensor device. Sony will also cover the cost of shipping and handling from and to addresses within the United States and US Territories for service to correct this issue. To see if you have this problem: Power On your camcorder (make sure the battery is fully charged). Check the LCD screen and verify that the display icons are turned on. If you cannot see the icons, press the Display button until the icons are visible. Put a tape in the camcorder. With the lens cap off, record some video. NOTE: Be sure to speak during the recording so the video will contain your voice. Rewind this section of the tape (using tape counter to verify start of your recording). Play back the recorded video and use the LCD screen on the camcorder to view it. You should hear the audio you recorded and the Display icons/text will still appear. If your camcorder is affected by this CCD issue, the picture will either be extremely distorted, or there will be no visible picture (just a blank LCD screen with the display icons still visible).
